The heat is on and, while we are sitting
in the shade of the old oak tree or
absorbing the air conditioning, there are
guys out there banging heads and shoul-
der pads, gearing up for the 1985 football
‘season.
College football is right around the
corner with Eastern powers Penn State
and Pittsburgh preparing for their season
opener’s on Sept. 7
- Penn State hopes to roar back after
last year’s sub-par 6-5 record and season
ending drubbings at the hands of Notre
Dame and Pitt. It was the worst record
since coach Paterno’s maiden season in
1966 when they were 5-5, and the first
{ime in 14 years the Lions failed to make
a bow! appearance.
Coach Paterno, starting his 20th season
at the helm, has sent his squad back to
basics to iron out the wrinkles and add
smoothness to his play.
The talent-laden Lions only question
marks seem to lie in who will replace
