Be — Er art a » - o! "85 WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28, 1985 Ted Jackson ew coach set to guide Mountaineers By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Correspondent Dallas High School head football coach Ted Jackson is new to the Dallas fans since he came here from Coughlin this season, replacing Ron Rybak who resigned after 20 years of coaching at Dallas. Jackson came to the Dallas coaching position with excellent recommendations from other professionals in the area. A native of Wilkes-Barre, he graduated from G.A.R. High School where he let- tered in football, baseball and wrestling. In football, he played both the running- back and defensive back positions. Jackson received a college degree with a major in health and physical education and is presently on the faculty staff at Plains Memorial in the Wilkes-Barre School District. He and his wife, Sandra, reside in Shavertown, with their two sons, Ted and Matthew. Sandra is also a teacher in the Wilkes-Barre District. Jackson said the ideal situation would be to teach in the Dallas District, but since there are no vacancies and since even if there were, he would lose his seniority at his current position, teaching in Dallas is out of the question. Jackson has a wide background of experience in coaching, having been in the football program at Coughlin for nine years. Jackson also has 11 years experi- ence in coaching wrestling at Meyers and Coughlin and five years experience of coaching baseball in the Wilkes-Barre District. Jackson and Rich Gorgone, Lake- Lehman’s coach, are good friends and speak highly of each other’s ability. According to Gorgone, Jackson is excellent on defense and also commands the utmost respect from his players. Since this is his first year at Dallas, Jackson says he does not know the boys very well yet, but that things are begin- ning to fall into place and the team members have a good attitude. “My coaching philosophy is that organ- ized discipline, right attitude and hard work are the key factors that contribute to a successful program,” said Jackson. “I believe these kids out for the team know this and they are working hard to put everything together.” TOR Fri., Sept. 27 at Tunkhannock, 7:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 5, WEST SIDE TECH, 2 p.m. Fri., Oct. 11 at Wyoming Area, 7:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 19, GAR, 2 p.m. Sat., Oct. 26 at Nanticoke Area, 7:30 p.m. .
