Martin, who topped the first-ever team of Dallas Post prognosticators last year with a 64-23 slate, slipped by Johnnie George, last year’s GoalPOST Petie when she predicted Wyoming Valley West would defeat Coughlin. When the Spartans of Valley West trounced Coughlin, 19-7, Martin’s first-place position was all sewn up while George finished in a tie for second place with former sports columnist Lee Richards as both wound up with 63-24 slates. The Dallas Post prognosticators are returning this year and will be picking the minds of area football players as well as all the armchair quarterbacks in the Back Mountain with their weekly predictions of both high school and college football games. In addition to Martin, those prognosticators returning for a second year include photographer Ed Campbell who finished fourth last year with a 58-29 slate; staff correspondent Charlot Denmon who came in third last year with a 62-25 slate; and advertising representative Joe Gula whose 56-31 record last year brought him fifth place in the rankings. Also returning is the ever-popular GoalPOST Petie who will live anonymously inside a resident of the Back Mountain throughout the entire football season. Petie, who will make his predictions every week along with the other prognosticators, will have his identity revealed at the conclusion of the 1985 gridiron season. A new face added to the list of prognosticators this year is that of staff writer John Kilduff. Kilduff, who will be covering football games for The Post this year, has never been a prognosticator prior to this year. A graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, Kilduff has reportedly been involved in sports throughout most of his life and professes to be a better-than-average guesser. High school teams that will be included in the prognosticators’ predictions on a weekly basis include Dallas, Lake-Lehman, Wyoming Valley West, Bishop O’Reilly, West Side Tech and Wyoming Seminary while college teams that will be included in the weekly selections are Penn State, Pittsburgh, and Notre Dame. Regardless of the outcome of this year’s predictions, The Dallas Post prognosticators are looking forward to a year of having fun and, hopefully, competing not only amongst themselves but also with all those Back Mountain football fans who will be keeping their eyes on the prognosticators.
