_ Airman Kevin M. McLaughlin,
son of William A. and Claire F.
‘McLaughlin of Rural Route 1, Har-
veys Lake, has been assigned to
~ Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., after
completing Air Force basic train-
ing.
- During the six weeks at lackland
Air Force Base, Texas, the airman
studied the Air Force mission, orga-
nization and customs and received
~ special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete
basic training earn credits toward
an associate degree through the
Community College of the Air force.
The airman will now receive spe-
cialized training in the administra-
tion field.
His wife, Cynthia, is the daughter
of Ralph and Nellie Rood of rural
Route 2, Harveys Lake.
He is a 1983 graduate of Lake-
Lehman High School, Lehman.
“Robert Cartier was recently
appointed to chair the Back Mt.
Area Awards Committee, Wyoming
Valley Chapter, American Red
Cross. Mr. Cartier is a resident of
Dallas and has been active with the
Red Cross since 1960, He has had
experience in various departments
including: Safety Services and
Disaster.

The awards night is being given in
recognition of Red Cross volunteers
who have served the Back Mt.
community.

Employee honored
The Meadows as a nurses
aide in February, 1984. Born in Wilkes Barre, she attended
Mr. and Mrs. Francis M. Duffy,
Meadows Apartment Complex in
Dallas, formerly of Wyoming, will
observe their 50th wedding anni-
vrsary on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
They were married in St. John the
Evangelist Church in Pittston by the
late Father Rafferty. Their attend-
ants were Mrs. Rose McManaman,
sister of the bride and Leo Garvey.
The couple hs two children,
Robert, Newark, Del. and Mrs.
Cathy Mugford, Dallas. They also
have five grandchildren.
Mrs. Duffy is the former Mary
Gallagher, daughter of the late
Auxiliary Volunteers met recently
at the Meadows Nursing Center,
Dallas, to prepare a mailing to the
community seeking their support
for the capital gifts campaign cur-
rently underway at the Center.
Social Club
holds picnic
The rain and the clouds overhead
didn’t dampen the spirits of the
members and friends of the Social
Club of The Meadows Apartments in
Dallas, at their recent clam bake
held on the grounds of The Meadows
on Wednesday, July 31. Good food
all day long, fellowship and games
brought the sunshine right into the
affair.
This was the second picnic the
residents enjoyed this year, the first
one was held the last week of June.
Prizes were won at the clam bake
by the following: Dorothy Pope,
Eleanor Montross, Don Williams,
Betty Kunkle, Tom Williams, Theta
Dickson, Florence Shively, Sarah
Wiliams, Mary Brunges, Wilbur
Hoyt, Stephania Shultz, Dorothy
Valent, Helen Stout and Dorothy
Williams.
On Wednesday, Aug. 7, the Social
Club also sponsored a bus trip to
Shawnee on the Delaware Dinner
Theatre to see the play ‘Sound of
Music’’. A chicken barbecue is
being planned to be held on Wednes-
day, Aug. 28.

Frank and Catherine Gallagher of
Pittston. Mr. Duffy is the son of the
late Robert and Louise Duffy of
Minersville, Pa. He is retired from
the Pennsylvania State Police.
