FRANCES LAYAOU
Mrs. Frances C. Layaou, 81, of
Meadows Apartments, 200 Lake St.,
Dallas, died July 28 in Wilkes-Barre
General Hospital where she had
been a patient for a day.
Surviving are sons,
Newark, De.; Rev. Roger, Pine
Grove; daughters, Mrs. Robert
Grover, Endicott, N.Y.; Mrs. Harry
Lawson, Mountaintop; sister, Mrs.
Eva Hendershot, WEst Pittston;
brother, James Carr, Sterling,
N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held
today at 11 a.m. from the Richard
H. Disque Funeral Home, 672
Memorial Highway, Dallas, with
Rev. David Davis, retired, officiat-
ing. Interment will be in the Dorr-
ance Reformed Cemetery, Dorr-
ance.
JOHN ALBER
John Dewey Alber, of Box 480,
Hillside Ave., Harveys Lake, died
July 24 at the Veterans Medical
Center, Plains Township.
Surviving are his wife, the former
Mildred Maloney; son, Chester
DeGraff, Linden, N.J.; daughter,
Mrs. Ross Sher, Connecticut; sis-
ters, Mrs. Geraldine Krus, Rochelle,
N.J.; and Mrs. Renee Caterino,
Clark, N.J:; one grandchild.
Funeral services were held July
27 from the Joseph J. Nat Funeral
Home, Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev.
Donald G. Nulton of the Meade
Street Baptist Church officiating.
Interment, Veterans Plot, Maple
Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township.

EMMETT DEMPSEY
Emmett Dempsey, 64, a guest of
the Thomas Guest Home, Sweet
Valley, died July 23 during a fire at
the home.
Surviving are his sister, Margaret
Grant, Larksville; brother, Daniel
Dempsey, Kingston; several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services were held July
26 from the Andrew Strish Funeral
Home, Larksville, with Mass of
Christian Burial in St. Ignatius
Church, Kingston. Interment, St.
Vincent’s Cemetery, Larksville.
RHONDA RAEDLER
Miss Rhonda Marie Raedler, 33
Hill St., Jeansville, a guest of the
Thomas Guest Home, died July 23
during a fire at the home.
Surviving are her parents, John
and Nancy Raedler; sister, Debbie,
at home; paternal grandmother,
Mrs. Theresa Raedler and maternal
grandmother, Mrs. Marguerite Hil-
debrand, both of Hazleton; several
aunts, uncles and cousins.
Private funeral services were
held with interment in the Mount
Laurel Memorial Park, Hazleton.
LUCY DEL REGNO
Lucy DelRegno, 77, of Butler Ter-
race, Freeland, a guest of the
Thomas Guest Home, Sweet Valley,
died July 23 during a fire at the
home.
Surviving are her brothers and
sisters, Patrick DelRegno, Mrs.
Cecilia Romeo and Mrs.: Minnie
Citro, all of Freeland; Joseph Del-
Regno, Hazleton; Victor DelRegno,
Bayonne, N.J.

. Nicholas Demko, 69, a native of
Ashley and former of 32 Cummiskey
St., Wilkes-Barre, a guest of the
Thomas Guest Home, Sweet Valley,
died July 23 during a fire at the
home.
Surviving are sisters, Mrs. Frank
Motovidlak, Wilkes-Barre; Mrs.
Donald Brooks, Milton; Mrs. John
Cain, Alexandria, Va.; Mrs. Joseph
Nopolsky, Pringle; brothers, Ste-
phen and Michael, both of Wilkes-
Louis Jr., Wilkes-Barre Township. A
brother, John, and a sister, Cather-
ine Mackewicz, preceded him in
death.
Funeral services were held July
26 from the Simon S. Russin
Funeral Home, Plains, with Divine
Liturgy in SS Peter and Paul
Ukrainian Catholic Church. Inter-
ment, parish cemetery, Plains.
STEPHEN HAVERSLEY
Stephen Haversly, 90, a native of
Austria and a guest at the Thomas
Guest Home, Sweet Valley, died
July 23 during a fire at the home.
There are no known survivors.
AGNES SCANLON
Agnes Scanlon, 72, formerly of 12
Lee Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, a
guest at the Thomas Guest Home,
Sweet Valley, died July 23, during a
fire at the home.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Eliza-
beth McLinden, Chula Vista, Calif.
Funeral services were held July
Home, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of
Christian Burial in St. Aloysius
Church, Wilkes-Barre. Interment,
St. Mary’s Cemetery Hanover
Township.
GRACE SORBER
Grace Sorber, 74, a native of
Salem Township, Wayne County, a
guest at the Home Guest Home,
Sweet Valley, died July 23 during a
fire at the home.
Surviving are her son, Fred
James Sorber, of Shickshinny.
Funeral services were held July
26 from the Clarke Piatt Funeral
Home, Hunlock Creek, with the
Rev. Glen Neely of the Reyburn
Bible Protestant Church officiating.
Interment was in the Sorber family
plot at Reyburn.
Mary Ann Dubs,
40, a State Department Foreign Serv-
"ice officer who served in Mexico and
a former editor of the Congressional
Record Daily Digest, died of leuke-
mia July 23 at George Washington
University Hospital.
Mrs. Dubs, who lived in Washing-
ton, was the wife of Adolph (Spike)
Dubs, the U.S. ambassador to
Afghanistan who was killed by ter-
rorist kidnapers in 1979. They were
married in 1976, when he was a
deputy assistant secretary of State.
He was killed before she could join
him at his post in Afghanistan.
She was born in Jackson Township,
Pa. Following her graduation from
Wilkes College in 1965, she moved to
Washington and went to work in the
public affairs office of the State
epartment. In 1971, she took a job
in the Office of the Parliamentarian
of the Senate. In 1972 she joined the
Congressional Record Daily Digest
as assistant editor and was named
first woman editor in 1979.
In 1980, Mrs. Dubs was commis-
sioned in the Foreign Service. Her
assignments included Mexico, where
she was administrative officer of the
U.S. embassy. She was at State at
the time of her death.
Mrs. Dubs was founder of the
Afghan Relief Committee of Wash-
ington and for this work she was
decorated by the government of
Pakistan. Survivors include her
parents, Elmer and Mary Laskowski,
and a sister, Mrs. Gary W. Miller, all
of Jackson Township.
The Funeral Service was con-
ducted Fri., July 26 from the Lewins-
ville Presbyterian Church, McLean,
Virginia. Reverend Gary Pinder of
Lewinsville Presbyterian Church and
Reverend Charles Peers of Moosic
Presbyterian Church officiated.
Mr. Harold Saunders eulogized.
In lieu of flowers the family has
requested that donations be made to
the Leukemia Society, 1625 Eye
Street, Northwest, Washington, D.C.
20006.
Interment was at Arlington

ginia.
