THE PRINGLE VOLUNTEER
FIRE COMPANY will hold their
annual bazaar on Thursday, July 18
through Saturday, July 20, on the
Evans Street Fire Company
Grounds.
On Saturday, July 20, a firemen’s
parade will be held starting at 7
p.m. Trophies will be awarded in
various categories by the judges.
The Ladies Auxiliary have pre-
pared homemade foods for the
event, such as pierogi, potato pan-
cakes, kluski and cabbage, home-
mamde clam chowder, and many
more delicious homemade foods.
This event is scheduled to open
nightly -at 7 p.m. and everyone is
cordially invited.
Fire truck rides will be provided
for the children.
THE NORTHEAST PENNSYL-
VANIA LEHGIH UNIVERSITY
ALUMNI CLUB will host a send-off
reception and picnic for local stu-
dents who will be freshmen at the
University this fall on Sunday after-
noon, July 21.
The freshman send-off will be he
held in conjunction with the North-
east Pennsylvania Alumni Club’s
Summer Picnic, beginning at 1 p.m.
at the Kirby Episcopal House in
Glen Summit.
In addition to freshman guests
and their parents, those attending
the affair will include Lehigh
alumni, family members, and Uni-
versity undergraduates from the
local area.
James P. Stevenson of West Pitts-
ton is serving as program chairman
for the event. Robert M. Schantz of
Dallas is president of the Northeast
Pennsylvania Lehigh Alumni Club.
THE 73RD ANNUAL REUNION
OF THE HOOVER FAMILY will be
held on Saturday, July 20 beginning
with a basket lunch at 12 noon.
Place of meeting is Hanson’s
Park, Harveys Lake.
Following lunch, there will be a
business meeting and games and
prizes for children and adults.
Relatives and friends are urged to
attend.
BILL ELLIOTT, driver of the
Coors-Melling No. 9 Ford Thunder-
bird, the current NASCAR points
leader, winner of the Daytona 500,
and 6 other NASCAR Grand
National races this season, as well
as the holder of numerous qualify-
ing and speed records in 1985, will
appear on Public Square in Wilkes-
Barre, on Thursday, July 18 at
approximately 6:30 p.m. to crown
the winner of the “Miss Pocono
Summer 500 Queen Contest’.
Bill will be available for a short
time following the contest to the
media.
DOROTHY MUGFORD, chairper-
son of the “Miss Pocono Summer
500 Queen Contest”, has announced
that the finals for that event will be
held on Public Square in Wilkes-
Barre on Thursday, July 18 begin-
ning at 6 p.m.
Competition will be in swim suit
and evening gowns with each con-
testant being asked one question
from their application as an indica-
tion of their poise and public speak-
ing ability. |
Mrs. Mugford has also announced
that the woman selected ‘‘Miss
Pocono Summer 500” will receive
from the Penn Hills Resort a week-
end for two at that resort beginning
on Friday evening and ending on
Sunday, including selected meals.
Gary Boam, co-chairman of the
contest, reports that arrangements
have been made for the queen to be
crowned by Bill Elliott, the current
NASCAR points leader, winner of 7
Grand National Races in 1985 and
the holder of numerous qualifying
and race speed records this year.
Applications are still availalbe for
the contest at the following loca-
tions: The Sheraton-Crossgates
Hotel Front Desk; Boscov's First
Floor Courtesy Desk; Gallery of
Sound, all locations; Wilkes-Barre
Chamber of Commerce.
The public is invited to the con-
test, and to meet and greet Bill
Elliott following the festivities.

are among the more than 60 per-
formers orgroups- that will appear
at the 24th annual Philadelphia Folk
Festival this year. The Festival will
be held August 23 to 25 at the Old
Poole Farm in Upper Salford near
Schwenksville, PA.
; Three days of music, crafts, danc-
ing, camping and special children’s
events will include three main stage
evening concerts, two main stage
afternoon concerts, two special
showcase concerts, two days of
workshops, and plenty of jamming
and playing. f

SUMMER NATURE PROGRAMS
at Frances Slocum State Park,
Mount Olivet Road, Wyoming will
continue this weekend with a free
presentation about waterfowl.
“Waterfowl of North America”
will be the subject of a presentation
by John Levtsky at 2 p.m. Sunday,
July 21, at the park Visitor’s Center.
With a slide show. Levtsky will
identify species of ducks found
throughout Pennsylvania, and the
U.S., along with general populations
of local areas and food require-
ments. Beautiful nature photogra-
phy and, closeup views of ducks
make this program a must for
hunters, nature lovers and photog-
raphers.
Levtsky is a member of Ducks
Unlimited, and the Susquehanna
Waterfowlers, which is very active
in establishing food plots and nest-
ing sites for various waterfowl of
the area.
