At All-Star Game By JOHN F. KILDUFF Staft Writer After six years of dedicated serv- ice to the Dallas Kiwanis All-Star softball game and probably as many years coaxing him fo accept it, Dallas resident George McCutch- eon has received the Kiwanis Club’s award for meritorious service involving women’s athletics. “I really appreciate their (Kiwanis) thoughts in presenting me with this award,” McCutcheon said Monday. “They know the game (the annual East/West High School All-star classic) and have given the award to five very geod people,” McCutcheon continued. “I feel hon- ored to be mentioned in the same company of the past recipients.” McCutcheon , 131 Overbrook Road, Dallas, was instrumental in the evolution of the annual East/ West Women’s All-Star game six years ago and feels today that the game is an excellent showcase for top notch women softball players to prepare for college careers. “I feel it’s a good chance for area coaches to look at some good play- ers,” McCutcheon said. “It gives some players, the ‘sleepers’ a chance to get a look,” McCutcheon said. McCutcheon continued by saying that the crowd! attending the game over the past six years has contin- ued to grow. This year’s crowd was estimated at a few hundred. “I think the high school coaches really deserve a great deal of credit,” McCutcheon said in refer- ence to the All-Star game. ‘They carry most of the load.” Next year, McCutcheon said, the coaches plan to have an athletic trainer at the contest in order to assist in the event of injuries. This year’s contest was marred by inju- ries to Wyoming Seminary’s Donna Zavada and Wyoming Valley West’s Debbie Pearn, who collided while flagging down « pop fly. When asked why he had declined accepting the award from the Dallas Kiwanis; a number of years past, McCutcheon aimiably said: “I felt like the Kiwanis didn’t really need to give me an award. I’ve had more than enough in my life to more than please me.” Riding ‘Shortcake’ Hosey steadies the animal during Western Night last Custom Built Bikes To Your Spec's OLD MILL BIKE BICYCLES 320 Exeter Ave. W.
