DENMON Staff Correspondent - The Old World atmosphere of Northern Italy descends upon customers from the moment they catch a glimpse of the exterior of Nonno Lini’s Restaurant located on Farrell Street in downtown Hilldale just beyond Plains. The architecture resembles that of a villa in Florence, the city at the base of the mountains in the northern part of Italy. Grandfather Nonno Lini was born in a small village in the province of Perugia and brought with him to this country recipes cherished in his family for many generations. Today, his grandson, Richard, shares these delicious foods with his customers in the restaurant he named Nonno Lini after his grandfather. While he acts as Maitre D, his wife, Mary Theresa, prepares the food with the same loving care her husband’s ancestors did many years ago in Italy. Upon entering the restaurant, one is attracted to the simplicity of the trellis-enclosed bar, the lattice work entwined with grape leaves so ‘typical of the vineyards of Italy. To the left is the courtyard- appointed private diningroom in muted shades of terra cotta and ivory, soothing to the business and corporate clients, who, after a hectic day, seek relaxation while dining and conducting .important business transactions. The quiet stucco room is also ideal for other special occasions such as birthdays, showers and anniversary dinners. Entering the main diningroom, one is greeted by Richard’s grandmother, whose sparkling dark eyes and warm smile welcomes you before she says softly, “Come with me”.
