Sodding work set to begin Residents along Harris Hill Road in Kingston Township should be tracted with the Midway Garden Center to apply 2,800 square feet of sod to road embankments in that area. The sodding work is being done to remedy an erosion problem created as a result of street recon- struction in that area in 1984. Workers from Midway Garden Center will be distributing fliers to those residents who will have sod placed in front of their properties. The Township asks the cooperation of the residents in following the contractor’s instructions for proper care and watering. The Midway Garden Center is also scheduled to seed an embank- ment adjacent to the Township Municipal Building, 11 Carverton Road. Work on both projects is expected to begin on or about June 4. The award winning Lake-Lehman Band, under the direction of John Miliauskas, traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in the 1985 Festival of Music which was held from May 15th through the 20th. Bands from Florida, South Caro- lina, Maryland, Tennessee and Pennsylvania were represented at the Festival. Competing in Stage Band, Concer, Field Sho, Parade and Indoor Guard, the band won 13 trophies. Of these 13 trophies, nine were 1st place in their competing class and three were Overall Best in the Festival. While at the competition, the band took part in three band clinics given to them by Dr. William Rivelli. Dr. Rivelli, from Michigan State Uni- versity, is considered the foremost Dean of Band Directors in the United States today. The high point of the competition came about when Lake-Lehman was chosen as the Honor Band on the Awards Presentation Night. At that ceremony, all band and chorus groups came together at the Con- vention Auditorium and Lake- Lehman was chosen to perform for all the groups. Dr. Rivelli directed a march and Director John Miliaus- kas directed an overture. The band, directed by Dr. Rivelli, ended the program with the playingof “God Bless America” as the audience sang. Returning home with 13 trophies was certainly important to the band but returning home knowing they had been so honored by Dr. Rivelli was even more important to this group of fine young musicians. (EEI) owner and operator of The Meadows Apartments and Nursing Center in Dallas, was recently noti- fied by the Farmers Home Adminis- tration (FmHA) that additional applications of interest from area residents . for EEI’s proposed 40 elderly and handicapped apart- ments called the “High Meadows’, will be necessary in order to further process the loan application for $1,500,000. Ray Condo, Executive Director of EEI stated that FmHA wants a guarantee of at least 60 eligible elderly (62 and over) or handi- capped persons whose incomes are above the $13,000 annual range. In addition, FmHA wants further evi- dence that those people in renting two bedroom units can justify the need for two bedroom units for medical or other just reasons. FmHA needs a documented survey to meet its program criteria even through they believe the proposed apartments can be easily rented to individuals with lower annual incomes. The FmHA Rural Renting Hous- ing Program provides 1 percent mortgages to eligible borrowers such as EEI, a non-profit religious affiliated corporation. Anyone who has not already placed an application on EEI’s wait- ing list, is encouraged to contact the Meadows Apartments at 675-6936.
