JACKSON TOWNSHIP A Memorial Service sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jackson Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept., will be held at the Fire Hall Honor Site on Chase Rd., Saturday, May 25, at 4 p.m. Very Rev. Louis Orzech, pastor of Resurrection of the Lord, Polish National Catholic Church of Edwardsville and Capt. Fred J. Gosart of the 402nd M.P. Army Reserve Unit, will conduct the serv- ices. The program will honor the memory of the departed fire fight- ers and all servicemen who made the supreme sacrifice for their com- munity, especially Pfc. Richard Zimmerman, who died in a tragic accident March 13, 1985 while serv- ing his country. Pfc. Zimmerman a resident of this community was one of 12 young men killed during train- ing at Fort Bragg, N.C. He waited over a year to be accepted into the Airborne Division and loved the job he had chosen. Mr. Fred Fielding, who was a life member and past president of the Jackson Twp. Fire Department passed away on April 23, 1985. He will be long remembered for the Economy Store he owned in the township for over 20 years. Mr. Fielding, was a former Jackson Twp. Supervisor. He was also a member of the First Welsh Baptist Church in Edwardsville and served as a church trustee. The Award winning Lake-Lehman High School Band Color Guard will make a formal procession. Mem- bers of the guard are: Captain, Michael Kmetz, rifles; Billy Gosart, Ernie Clamar, Ray Shaw, Brian Kmetz and Ralph Bowman. Stan- dard bearers: Andy Thomas, Amer- ican Flag and J.R. Smith, Pennsyl- vania State Flag. The memorial wreath, which was donated by the Jackson Twp. Ladies Auxiliary will be carried to Capt. Gosart by representatives of the Trucksville Brownies, Troop 659, Gate of Heaven, Dallas, Pack 232, Trucksville Cub Scouts and Webe- los, Pack 155. : Capt. Gosart and Pat Zimmerman will place the floral wreath at the base of the stone monument. Joe Shonis, trumpeter, will sound “Taps’’, “To The Colors” and “Retreat” at the end of the Memo- rial Service. Participating in the Military Unit Program are: 2nd Lt. Doughlas Rauh, commander of the firing squad and the following five mem- bers of the 402nd M.P. Army Reserve Unit of Wilkes-Barre, Sgt. John Bertis, Sgt. John Galushka, Sgt. Francis O’Gorman, Sgt. Wil- liam Kennedy, Sgt. Joseph Farrell. Officers of the Jackson Twp. Jeffrey, who died, May 17, 1985. He resided in Jackson Twp. for 40 years, and was a life member of Jackson Twp. Fire Dept. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of VFW Anthracite Post 283. A wreath will be placed at the ih DALLAS BOROUGH According to police reports, Mildred Louise Kocher, 29, of RD 2, Dallas was involved in an accident when the 1983 Dodge Charger she was operating crossed the medial strip of Route 415 and struck another vehicle head-on. Ralph Temarantz was traveling south on Route 415 in the left lane when the Kocher vehicle, traveling north, crossed the strip and struck his car. Both drivers refused medi- cal treatment at the scene. The Kocher vehicle was towed to Wesley’s. Patrolman R.G. Jolley investigated the mishap which occurred on May 18. DALLAS TOWNSHIP Two radios were stolen from vehi- cles at the Saab dealership in Kunkle. Kunkle Motors reported that on May 18 someone entered a 1982 and a 1985 Saab and removed the radios. The value of the radios and damage to the vehicles is esti- mated at $3,000. ‘ . -0- Two people were injured in a mishap that occurred at the inter- section of Lower Demunds Road and Wyoming Road on May 18. Taken to Nesbitt Memorial Hospital by the Dallas Ambulance were Sharon Evarts, 20, of RD 3, Dallas and Sharon Sharkness, 18, of RD 3, ‘Dallas. Sharkness was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Evarts. The two women were traveling south on Lower Demunds Road when 31 year old Kathryn Southland of Wilkes-Barre approached the intersection on Wyoming Road. Southland failed to stop at the stop sign, entered the intersection, and hit the Evarts vehicle broadside. Township patrolman John Appel investigated. -0- On May 19, Mark Pilger, P.O. Box 263, Dallas, was traveling south in the southbound lane of Route 309. His 1976 Mercury crossed over an embankment coming to rest in a ditch. KINGSTON TOWNSHIP Highway in Shavertown was bur- glarized on May 18. A large amount of plants, nursery items and con- crete statues were taken valued at $600.00. Officer James Balavage investigated. -0- 4 One person was injured as a result of a mishap on Route 309 by N-Mart on May 16. According to police reports, Tonia A. Murphy of Wyoming Ave., Dallas, was travel- ing south on Route 309. She came to a stop with her left turn signal on to turn into N-Mart. Kay Susan Freeman of Lake Catalpa Rd. in Dallas, who was traveling in the same direction saw her stop but couldn’t stop her ’81 the Murphy vehicle in the back end. The accident was investigated by Walter Davis and Kingston Town- ship Police Chief Paul Sabol. : 20= Beverly Jessie Hontz of Sprague Ave. in Kingston was injured when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a tree. She was traveling west on Bunker Hill Road towards Atherholt Drive when she reached for something in her purse and her car left the road. Officers Beisel and Ziegler inves- tigated. A hearing has been scheduled for Kathryn Southland before District Magistrate Earl Gregory on May 23, 1985. Southland has been charged with D.U.I. and failing to stop at a stop sign on Lower Demunds Road in Dallas Township which resulted in an accident on May 18. Southland, 31, whose address was given as 300 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, was and had no where to go, the Judge remanded her to jail when she was arrested. The hearing is set for 2:30. -0- Drew Fitch, Jr., 21, of 83 Park Street in Dallas will face a hearing before Magistrate Gregory next week on charges of D.U.I. The charges stem from an accident which occurred along Route 415 in April. -0- A hearing for Robert Kreidler, a 37 year old Harveys Lake man who has been charged with raping a 13 year old girl in March, has been continued until June 5 at 10 a.m. before District Magistrate Leonard Harvey. Kreidler was arrested last week on charges of indecent assault, rape, statutory rape and corrupting the morals of a minor. After his arraignment he was went to Luz- erne County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail. Dallas Honor Roll and a parade is scheduled. Military tribute will be paid at Woodlawn and Chapel Lawn ceme- teries. HARVEYS LAKE The Arthur R. Gosart Post 967 of the American Legion will hold serv- ices on Memorial Day to honor our departed veterans. These will include servies at 10 a.m. at Kocher Cemetery, then at 11 a.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery. A wreath will be placed on the Honor Roll located at Sunset, Harveys Lake. The Legion would appreciate the assistance of a minister or priest to conduct the services. SWEET VALLEY Sweet Valley Vol. Fire Co. will hold its annual Memorial Day Fair and Parade on'May 24, 25, and 27 at the Ross Twp. school grounds, Main Road, Sweet Valley. The fair will open 5:30 p.m. on Friday and Satur- day and 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27. Pa. Coal Diggers will perform on Friday evening, the Tyme Band is slated for Saturday eveing. The Al Hess, a local group will open the fair on Monday morning. A parade at 1;30 featuring Miss Pa. 1984, Gina Major, plus bands, scout groups, floats, fire and ambulance companies. Following the parade Miss major will perform and sign autographs. Local fire companies will participate in a bucket brigade for trophies in the afternoon. A kiddie drawing will be held at about 4 p.m. Joe Stankey and his Pa. Cadets will perform Monday eve- ning. A gigantic fire works display will conclude the weekend activi- ties.
