Top ranking students of the Dallas
Senior High School were presented
Eighty-six honor students, in addi-
tion to their parents, faculty mem-
bers, board members, administra-
tors and special guests attended the
dinner and presentation.

Conference
scheduled
The Luzerne County Women’s
Conference, the first such confer-
ence of its kind in the area, will be
held June 1, 1985 at Penn State
Wilkes-Barre in Lehman. This event
is being co-sponsored by 45 area
organizations concerned about
women’s issues.
The day-long conference will kick
off with Keynote Speaker, Motlale-
pula Chabaku, a native of South
Africa, whose speech entitled ‘‘Join-
ing Hands” will address the poten-
tial that is within each person to
make an impact on the world
around us. 3
The afternoon will feature a panel
of Hollywood ex-wives: Patti Lewis,
Lynn Landon and Jackie Joseph,
who founded the group, L.A.D.I.LE.S.
(Life After Divorce Is Eventually
Sane). They will share their experi-
ences with divorce in Hollywood.
Conference participants will have
a choice of three of 32 workshops
designed to appeal to women of all
ages, backgrounds and interests.
Some topics are: Access to Jobs,
Combining Career with Motherhood,
Mother-Daughter-Granddaughter,
Your Financial Future, Behind
Bars, Feminization of Poverty, Pre-
venting Child Sexual Assault,
Women in Depression, A Woman’s
Place Is In the House and Senate,
Options fo Caregivers, Eating
Behaviors.
In addition to workshops, the con-
ference will feature films and dis-
plays. The cost of the conference,
including lunch is $12.00, and schol-
arships are available. Child care
will be provided.

sity, guest speaker, who spoke on
the insight into beauty and the value
of continuing higher education.
Honor certificates were presented
by department chairmen to the
highest ranked sophomore, junior
and senior in art, business, English,
foreign languages, healthy, physical
education, home economics, indus-
trial arts, mathematics, music, sci-
ence, environmental studies and
social studies.

presented special awards as fol-
lows: Hugh O’Brien Scholarship to
sophomore Mark Richardson; Penn-
sylvania Free Enterprise, Junior
Michele Lamoreaux; Wilkes College
Presidential Scholarship, Senior
David Garber; Jets Team winners,
Peter Morcos, Dave Dillon; Dallas
Federated Women’s Scholarship,
Kim Rollman, Stan Koprowski; Jay-
cees Scholarship, Sharon Dough-
erty; Lions Scholarship, John Kutz;
Dallas Lioness Scholarship, Chris-
tine Cavalari; National Scholar-Ath-
lete Award, Matthew Medura;
Pennsylvania Junior Miss finalist
$11,000 scholarship, Judy Fitch;
Wilkes-Barre Campus Penn State
Freshman Scholarship, Eric Supey.
Certificates of Commendation in
the 1985 National Merit Scholarship
program were presented to David
Dillon and Thomas Sudol. Junior
Peter Morcos was presented as the
finalist in the Pennsylvania Gover-
nor’s School for the Sciences and
semi-finalists in the Pennsylvania
Governor’s School for the Arts were
Sophomores Barbara Davies, Victor
Liva, Heather Nattress; and Junior
Kathleen McKewon. Michele Lamo-
reaux and Marilyn Ward were hon-
ored as 4.0 students and students
presented fro the Presidential Aca-
demic Fitness Awards were Amy
Aston, David Dillon, Sharon Dough-
erty, Matthew Eichorn, David
Garber, Ruth Gavazzi, Jeffrey Hall,
John Kutz, Matthew Medura,
Thomas Sudol, Eric Supey and
Keith Wasilewski.
NEDT Certificate winners were
Elizabeth Adams, Crystallene Bell,
Chrissy Bulford, Patricia Chismer,
Erin M. Cleary, Denise Corcoran,
Ann Marie Danna, Donald S. Fran-
cis, Mary R. Herbert, Truyen L.

mores.
Induction of new members into
the Dallas High School Chapter,
National Honor Society, was held
prior to the presentation of all
certificate and scholarships, in a
ceremony conducted by Society
President Kelly Saba. Miss Saba
carried a lighted candle which she
explained was a symbol of the Light
of Knowledge. She led the members
in the pledge of the Honor Society
as they and former members of the
society lit their candles from the
lighted one she held, and carried
them back to their tables.
Senior David Garber was
presented as valedictorian of the
senior class of 1985 and Thomas
Sudol was presented as salutatorian
