Nr THE DALLAS POST/Wednesday, May 15, 1985 15 Cindermen split with WA, GAR After moving to Wyoming Valley West and Bishop Hoban in a tri- meet last Wednesday, the Lake- Lehman cindermen managed a split a day earlier in the tri-meet with Wyoming Area and GAR. .In Wednesday’s competition, the Knights were defeated 110-40 by the Spartans and 85-65 by Bishop Hoban. In Tuesday’s competition, Wyoming took the Knights 124%- 25%, while the Knights defeated GAR 85'%-64%. Taking firsts in Wednesday’s action were the team of Schall, Henninger, Dennis and Janiczek 3200 Relay, 9:11.5; Dave Janiczek, 1600 Run, 4:58; Janiczek, 800 Run 2:10.2. Placing second for the Knights were Schall, 400 Dash; Lake- Lehman team, 400 Relay; Radom- ski, 3200 Run; Lake-Lehman team, 1600 Relay. Third place finishers were Kazmierski, 300 Hurdles; Dennis, 800 Run; Kazmierski, high jump and Chris Van Gorder, Shot Put. In the Tuesday competition, the Lake-Lehman 3200 Relay team of Schall, Dennis, Henninger and Jani- czek took first in 8:53.6; Janiczek took first in the 1600 Run in 4:55.4 and the 800 Run in 2:07.4. DENMON Staff Correspondent with trials beginning at 2:45 p.m. and finals starting at 6 p.m. Boys competition for the District 2 titles will be Friday with the trials starting at 2 p.m., and the finals scheduled for 6 p.m. Both AA and AAA division team members will be in the competition with team titles to be awarded and top individuals in each event advancing to the state meet next weekend. In the girls competition, Back Mountain athletes and the events they are apt to place near the top are 400 meter dash-Linda King, Dallas, whose top time is a mere five seconds ofof leader Debbie Moran, Meyers; 800 run, also Linda King who is in the top five in the 3200 meter run-Amy Aston, who has led in this event the entire season, with her closest competitor Jodi Iannotti of Crestwood whose time is about one minute slower; 1600 meter relay-Linda King, Laurie Ogurkis, Heather Nattress and Sue Starolis of Dallas, who have run this event among the top five teams all season; 3200 meter relay-King, Leigh Pawling, Stephanie Michael and Aston, who will hve to overcome Wyo- ming Valley West to come in first. In the boys competition on Friday, Dave Janiczek is Lake-Lehman’s hope to come in at the top in the 800 and 1600 meter runs. Mountaineer Steve Brace will try for first spot in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. The Dallas 1600 meter relay team of Ron Ostrowski, Bob Oliver, Brace and Mike Farrell could take the first or second spot in that event since they have been only four seconds by top seeded Wyoming the entire from the Wyoming Valley Conference who will vie for a chance to travel to states for the high jump event. Both Mark Liva and Matt Mihal of Dallas will be in contention with Daryl Boich of Meyers for a first place in the discus and Liva, who has led all others the entire season in the shot put is expected to take that event. With District 2 teams from the Lackawanna County area also in the competition, there could be some surprises in both the girls and boys events with Lakeland, Honesdale, Scranton Prep, Scranton Cen- tral, Scranton Tech, Carbondale, entering some returning champs or top finishers from last season, in Scranton Prep’s Greg Posley and Lakeland’s Dave Altamiller will cause excitement for Janiczek in the 800 and Lakeland and Dunmore have tough competi- tors in the 1600 meter run. Janiczek will have to outdistance them and should if he is in top form. Tom Kukosky of Lake-Lehman might surprise in the 110 hurdles and Lake-Lehman’s 3200 meter relay team could pull an upset over Meyers or Scranton Prep.
