LAST WEEKEND our family spent the weekend in Philadelphia. It was a beautiful, sunny, warm spring day, all the animals, many with babies were laying around enjoying the sun. We were fortunate enough to see baby kangaroos, gorillas and giraffes. Despite the crowds at the zoo we really had a great time. re On Sunday, we spent three won- derful hours at Longwood Gar- dens near Ken- nett Square. Longwood Gar- dens, designed by Pierre S. duPont, is just indescriba- ble. Seasonal flowers adorn the grounds while in the conservatories are displayed various plants from all over the world. Spring time tulips, azaleas, pansies lined the many walking paths that lead to various fountain displays. In the conservatories, plants of every kind, orchids, bird of para- dise, roses, banana trees, Austra- lian buckhorn ferns, as many as you can think of are cleverly and artisti- cally displayed. The beauty and artistic design of Longwood Gar- dens is such that one must see it to believe it. Families from this area are needed to host a youngster from New York City. For most children, it is probably the first true vacation they’ve ever had. It can be a stimulating experi- ence to share simple adventures we take for granted, such as a hike in the woods, swimming in a pool, or just helping mow the lawn. Host families learn about a different country when the visiting young- sters bring along their habits and family histories. The Fresh Air Fund works through various church and commu- nity agencies in New York City to arrange two week vacations for City children. If a host family expresses preference for a boy or a girl, or even a particular age, FAF tries to match the child with the host family. The requirements for hosting a City child are simple. All that’s needed is an attitude of caring and sharing — plus room for one more at the dinner table. The children will arrive from NYC on June 27 an depart on July 11. Interested families may contact Lori Newell, Sweet Valley, 477-3560 or Charlotte Kindler, Shavertown, 696-3695. The Most Famous Basket in the World® j ATTENTION!
