ON APRIL 19, from 6 until 9:30,
St. Leo’s Elementary school in
Ashley will host a Spring Dance.
The sixth, seventh, and eighth grad-
ers of Gate of Heaven School have
been invited to attend. We extend
our thanks to the students from St.
Leo’s for the invitation. We'll be
there!

eight-grade skating party at

CINDY SCAVONE, daughter of
Patrick Scavone of Lake Silkworth.
She likes to ski, swim and ride
horses, when not in school. After
graduation, Cindy will go on. to
college.

THE SEVENTH GRADERS are in
the process of planning their class
trip. No definite destination has
been decided upon yet, but the
options look good. -

THE ANNUAL SCIENCE NIGHT
will be held Wednesday, April 10,
beginning at 7 p.m. Students of
sixth, seventh, and eighth grade will
take part. No prizes will be
awarded, since the purpose of the
fair is not competition, but to show
the best each student can do.
ON APRIL 11, the Diocesan
supervisor, Sr. Claire marie,
SS.C.N. will visit Gate of Heaven
School to observe the school in
action, the classes, the students and
the faculty. These visits are done
annually throughout the Diocese.

THE FIRST GRADERS will take
a field trip to Northwest Area High
School to be escorted by Dan Como-
roski along the nature trail in that
area. They will arrive about 10 a.m.

CANDY HEISER is the daughter
of Robert and Shirley Heiser of
Sweet Valley. Candy’s spare time is
occupied by swimming, biking and
hiking. September 11 and 29 are her
special memories. After graduation,
Candy wants to find a good job and
get married.

GOLDEN GATE GAME TICKETS
have been on sale recently after
weekend Masses. The proceeds will
benefit the school. Prizes are wait-
ing to be won daily. Tickets can be
purchased through the school office,
the parents, and the students. Don’t
delay - get one today. Good luck to
those who have already purchased
one.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK: Ray-
mond Baller. Raymond is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. John Baller of RD 3,
Wyoming. He is 13 years old. Ray
came to us during the second
quarter of last year and we like him
very much. His favorite subject is
science because he believes it to be
very interesting. He hopes to attend
Bishop O'Reilly High School, and
would like to eventually pursue law.
Ray enjoys bike riding, football and
Boy Scouting. He likes the music of
Duran-Duran.

first victory with a 9-5 win over
Pittston Area. Members of the team

The Lady Mounts also posted their
first win of the season with a
victory of Pittston Area. Special
congratulations to Lisa Gable (three
hits, three RBI's) and Lisa Shark-
ness, the winning pitcher (four
walks, four strikeouts.)

HATS OFF TO Mark ‘Scooter’
Farrell and Steve Wilson for their
fine performances in the East-West
Boys Basketball All-Star Classic.
Both Steve and Mark played fantas-
tic defense and also pretty good
offense (6 points and 10 points
respectively) in the West's 76-75
victory. We are proud of you, you
represented our school well!

This time to the tennis team on
their 7-0 victory over Meyers. Sin-
gles winners were Dave Dillon,
Dave Kistler, Brian Moose, Jack
Albert and John Kutz. Doubles win-
ners wee the teams of Dillon-Albert,
and Kistler-Kutz. Keep winning
guys.

WELL, IT’S THAT TIME OF
THE YEAR AGAIN - UNICO time.
The 1985 UNICO West Roster was
announced over the weekend. and we
are proud to say that Dallas has
placed four members on the team:
Charlie Arnone, Matt Mihal, Stan
Koprowski and Gary Vincelli. We
would also like to congratulate our
neighbors at Lehman who also
made the team. Congratulations to
Earl Weidner, Chris Van Gorder,
and T. Willy Cadwalader. Let’s beat
the East! é

THE END OF SCHOOL IS
APPROACHING and seniors are
counting the days. Commencement
exercises have been pushed back to
June 6 because of snow days. Oh
well, seniors, one more day won’t
hurt.

WITH THE END OF SCHOOL
comes the senior trip. This year’s
trip will be from May 22 to May 25
and will be taking the class of 1985
to Montreal, Canada. Needless to
say, the seniors are looking forward
to the trip.
The Lake-Lehman ECIA Chapter
I Parent Advisory Council is spon-
soring a “Make and Take” night on
Wednesday, April 17, from 7 to 9
p.m. at the Lehman-Jackson Ele-
mentary School Cafeteria.
Parents will be able to work with
Chapter I teachers in creating var-
lous ‘‘hands-on’’activities and
games. The parents may then take
them home to use with their chil-
dren over the summer months to
help maintain their reading and
math skills. The games and activi-
ties vary in difficulty from first
grade to eighth grade.
Chapter I staff members will be
present to assist parents. These
include Patricia Peiffer, Ed Lada-
mus, Molly Simonds, Sheila Race,
Gerald Gizenski, Bonnie Turchin,
Dave Smith, Marie Borton, Louise
Schwartz, Carle Welter and Mau-
reen Doerfler.
Refreshments will be served by
the Parent Advisory Council.
