Hoagie Bar is for people on the go By PAMELA AARON Staff Correspondent At the Hoagie Bar, people stand knee deep at the bright yellow and green serving counter as the entire lunch process begins. Up pops the first meatball sandwich on the tray by the register, followed quickly by a steak and cheese hoagie; which is wihsked away by a hungry patron just in time for a tuna hoagie and coke to take its place. The lines moves rapidly past the kitchen, where the operation of cooking and serving these New York style submarines is executed almost effortlessly. A dark-haired woman is filling the long Italian rolls and handing them to a white aproned gentleman, who then puts them in the oven while (with his other hand) simultaneously lifting out the ones that are done and placing them on plates, already prepared with chips and condiments. It is a well synchronized assembly line, considering that it’s rush hour — noon at the Hoagie Bar on Route 309 in Dallas. The last young man carries the finished orders to the counter, stopping briefly to refill a soda, before hurrying back to grab the new orders coming out of the oven. : The Hoagie Bar is nothing if it isn’t extremely convenient for hungry people on the go. One can be in and out in no time. No menus to read (the sandwiches, are posted behind the counter in bold type), no waiting. You can eat in or out, standard submarine fare, with or without dressings, onions, cheese or peppers, hot or cold. Saturday’s menu enlarges to include almost anything under the sun in a family-style buffet from 5 to 8 p.m. A myriad of homemade dishes grace the long table by the salad bar. Chicken, meat, fish, ham and Italian pasta with rice, potatoes, several vegetables and breads make a plentiful variety to choose from. Puddings, jello, cakes and pies with fresh hot coffee, provide numerous choices with which to end the meal. $4.95 buys all you can eat.
