The Basic Training Weekend will be held on March 16 and 17 at the Parish House of the Prince of Peace Episcopal Church on Main Street in Dallas. Threshold is a program that trains volunteers to teach decision making, problem solving and life planning skills to ‘clients’ at the State Correctional Institution at Dallas about to be released. Skills are taught through a structured curriculum in both group and one- to-one sessions over a 10 week period. Emphasis is on helping the client to see clearly his situation in life, to choose apprpriate goals, and to develop skills which increase the chances of attaining these goals. The local Threshold group is part of a national program and has the “approval of the SCID Administra- tion. The 10 weeks a volunteer gives of his or her time might be the decid- ing factor of whether or not a prisoner will adjust to community living upon his release or return to the prison system, at considerable cost to the tax payer.
