Northeastern Pennsylvania Phil-
harmonic reports that box office
sales in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre
have reached new heights this
season. For “Tops in Pops’ with
Guest Artist Conductor Nelson
Riddle, non-subscription sales
produced a record breaking income
of $11,055.
According to Executive Director
Sally Preate, ‘This performance
broke the record previously held by
our Benny Goodman concert several
seasons ago and we are happy to
say it is only one of a series of
successes at the box office this
season.” Mrs. Preate, continued,
‘For three of our five concerts, we
have sold stand-by tickets. Qur box
office has been sold out for the
classics as well as the pops, with
the demand for tickets for ‘Beetho-
ven’s Ninth’ ‘Holiday Classic’ and
the ‘Symphony Circus’ exceeding
those available.”
A sell-out is anticipated for
“Spring In Concert” which will be
performed in Wilkes-Barre on
Friday, March 29 and Saturday,
March 30 in Scranton. The program
will include music from Vivaldi,
Schumann and Beethoven. Those
wishing to purchase tickets are
requested to do so as soon as
possible and subscribers who will be
unable to attend either performance
are encouraged to give their tickets
to a friend or call the Philharmonic
office to release them. Anyone who
releases tickets through the Philhar-
monic is entitled to a tax: deduction
in the amount of the purchase price
of the tickets.
