Two injured
Dallas Post/Ed Campbell
Fairgrounds.
Four Back Mountain residents
were injured in a two-vehicle acci-
dent last Wednesday on Route 118
near the Lehman Fairgrounds,
approximately one mile west of
Dallas.
Injured were Jean M. Orkwis, 30,
of RD 4, 148 Hemlock Drive, Oak
Hill, Dallas, driver of one of the
vehicles; Ronald H. Orkwis, 32, of
RD 4, 148 Hemlock Drive, Oak Hill,
Dallas, an occupant; Emma Jane
Schoonover, 57, of RD 2, Dallas,
driver of one of the vehicles; and
Jestie Cook, 54, of RD 2, Box 317,
Dallas, an occupant in the Schoon-
over vehicle.
According to the Pennsylvania
State Police, wjp are currently
investigating the accident, the
Orkwis vehicle, a 1984 Chevrolet
Blazer was travelling West on Route
118. It skidded on icy pavement and
was struck broadside by a 1981
which was travelling East.
All four persons involved in the
accident were transported to
Wilkes-Barre General Hospital by
the Idetown and Lehman ambul-
ances. Both vehicles were towed
from the scene.
Trooper John Norwillo of Troop P,
Pennsylvania State Police, Wyo-
ming, is investigating the accident.
The following self-help tips are
offered to help minimize heat loss
and avoid frozen water pipes during
the frigid temperatures we're expe-
riencing.
1. Set your thermostat back at
night or if you will be away from
your home more than four hours.
2. Close doors to unused rooms.
3. In sub-freezing weather, allow
cold water to drip at a rate that will
fill an 8 oz. water glass in a minute
to prevent frozen pipes.
4. Reduce hot water tempera-
tures.
5. In the laundry, use the lowest
temperature wash possible.
6. Install switch-socket gaskets.
7. Install flow restrictors and aer-
ators on shower heads.
8. Seal attic doors and fireplace
flues.
9. Insulate hot water heater.
10. Have heating system checked,
cleaned and adjusted to insure max-
imum efficiency.
11. Seal and insulate ducts and
pipes to eliminate heat loss.
12. Periodically clean or replace
air filters.
13. Consider installing roll plastic
inside storm windows.
14. Fix leaky faucets.
15. Try to keep warm house air
circulating. (Consider the use of a
paddle-type ceiling fan if you have
high ceilings.)
16. Don’t block air flow from
registers and cold-air returns with
furniture.
17. Allow solar radiation to come
in during the day, but close draper-
ies by night to prevent room air
from leaking out around windows
and sliding patio doors.
Cemetery

being built
With the approval of Bishop
James C. Timlin, D.D., Bishop of
the Scranton Diocese and the Dioce-
san Building Commission, St. John’s
Parish, Nesbitt Street, Larksville, is
currently construction a new ceme-
tery chapel in St. John’s Cemetery,
near College Misericordia in Dallas.
The general contractor of the
chapel is Sordoni Construction Co.,
of Wilkes-Barre, with the assistance
of the Valley Engineering Co. of
Forty Fort. The electrical work is
being done by Brennan Electric of
Kingston.
The chapel will provide a conve-
nient and comfortable atmosphere
for the burial of loved ones at St.
John’s Cemetery. The building will
provide a vestibule and a main
chapel for the burials. Seating will
be provided for the members of the
family and the entire chapel will be
air-conditioned for the comfort of
all. Rest rooms will be incorporated
as well. The completion and dedica-
tion date of the new chapel is
scheduled for Memorial Day, May
27, 1985.
Many parish activities have been
held and are scheduled to help
defray the expenses of this new
edifice. Since many people have
etery who are not members of St.
John’s parish and have asked if
memorial donations are acceptable,
memorial donations may be sent to
St. John’s Cemetery Memorial
Fund, c-o St. John’s Church, 126
Nesbitt St., Larksville, Pa., 18651.
St. John’s Parish is sponsoring a
Paczkowy Bal-Doughnut Ball - A
Valentine Dance on Sunday, Feb.
17, to help raise money for the
chapel. All parish organizations and
officers are assisting in the prepara-
tion of this parish function. A spe-
cial drawing for cash prizes will
also be held at this event. Music will
be provided by George Tarasek and
the Polka Partners from 7 to 11
p.m.
The Rev. John C. Masakowski,
pastor, invites all parishioners and
friends of St. John’s to join the
parish family at this affair. Tickets
may be obtained by calling the
rectory or they may be purchased
at the door.

table lamps that provide the soft,
warm glow of elegance in the dining
room.
Ms. Pugh plans further surprises
and additions to the atmosphere at
the Dry Dock in the near future, one
of them being outdoor dining on the
balcony.
If you're lucky, you’ll get to meet
Francisco, The Dry Dock’s perky
Spanish chef, whose eyes reflect
both the seriousness with which he
considers his customers’ enjoyment
and the obvious delight he finds in
preparing his special dishes to per-
fection. One will notice a bit of
good-natured mischief in Fran-
cisco’s eyes as the sudden flaming
of his ‘Bananas Flambe”’ forces an
otherwise relaxed patron to jump up
and take notice.
The menu at The Dry Dock is
pleasingly provincial. Beginning
with the appetizers, all are created
with fresh fish and Francisco’s spe-
cial sauces. The ‘“Bechmel’”’ sauce,
served with LaCoquille St. Jacques,
(an appetizer of shrimp or scallops
topped with selected seasonings,
wine and parmesan cheese), is
especially smooth and rich.
At present, there are 23 entrees of
which ‘Paella’ is the house spe-

cialty. Served with Spanish Rice,
the Paella is a meal of generous
proportions; overflowing with crab
claws, clams, shrimp, sole, squid
and Cherizo and mixed with olives,
peppers, beans, asparagus and
other delectables, which will please
even the most discerning of palates.
With the meal, a surprisingly subtle
fresh pate or an oxtail consomme
with blended sherry, can be served
with a flavorful French bread.
Since the restaurant opened in
December, 1984, Ms. Pugh-has been
adding to her wine list, paralleling
her customers’ tastes. At present,
one may find a dependable selection
