By CHARLOT M. DENMON Glen Mazer achieved a goal every ‘bowler dreams of last Friday night at Bonomo’s Sports Center in Dallas. Mazer, who bowls on the Sweet Valley Outfitters team with his twin brother, Gary, rolled a perfect 300 game and at the same time, achieved his first 700 series which has been his ambition since he first started bowling seven years ago. “I never thought about a perfect game,” said Mazer. “I rolled 193 the first game and 242 the second so I figured I had a good chance of hitting a 700 series. My first six strikes came easy, I’ve never had more than six in a row until tonight. I said to my brother, Gary, ‘If I get a strike in the seventh and eighth frame I believe I can go all the way.” Glen said his twin brother and Rich Bonomo were his best support in his achievement. He said he and Gary always talk a lot to each other while bowling but in his third game Friday night, Gary sat back silently and never said a word till the last frame when he said, ‘“O.K. Glen”. R. Bonomo, also on the same team with the Mazers also sat quietly andthey let Glen keep score except when he bowled, then Gary marked in his brother’s score. “I have often talked about perfect games with my mother,” said Glen, “But when I told her I bolwed a 300 she said ‘I know you can do better’, how much ‘better can I do-two 300’s?”’ Mazer said he doesn’t take the credit for the 300 game, that the credit belongs to all the loyal bow- lers who have stayed with Bonomo’s Sports Center rather than criticizing the lanes and going somewhere else. For the record, the ABC official who came out to check the lanes and pins stated that Bonomo’s lane- sare the truest lanes in the area and the pins are the heaviest. Glen bowled the 300 on lanes 15 and 16, his two favorite lanes. He said every ball was in the pocket but the last one. Onthe last one the ball was off the-pocket and left two pins but suddenly they went over. “Believe me I looked up to God on that last one,” said Glen. Mazer had 24 strikes in his 735 series, 12 in the third game, eight in his second game and four in the first and he had one open frame for the series. He expressed his appreciation to all the bowlers and onlookers, who kept quiet until Glen let go of the last ball, then they all roared. A dedicated bowler, Glen said ‘I was in the right place at the right rolled the 300 in the Friday night league and that the two bolwers, who had the only other 300 games at Bonomo’s Sports Center, were there. These two men were Charles Wiliams, who once hit 300 in a practice game when the lanes were owned by Robert Hanson; and Donald Purvin, the only other man to hit 300 in league competition on Jan. 17, 1966. They were sitting on Mazer’s left. Mazer also gives credit to his brother, Gary, whom he says is a better and more scientific . bowler than he (Glen) is. Glen said his brother has helped him a great deal and that he knows it is only a matter of time until Gary rolls a 300 game. And to make certain that he got the 300 out of his stystem, Glen was at Bonomo’s Sports Center, Satur- day afternoon, to bowl. His first practice game--235. after finishing a perfect 300 game, only the second perfect game rolled in league play at Bonomo's in 19 years. (Photo by Charlot M.
