local representative for Mutual of Omaha and United
of Omaha, recently completed a comprehensive insur-
ance course at the Career Sales Institute in Omaha,
NE.
One of the most advanced insurance training semi-
nars in the country, the course is designed to develop
professional marketing skills with health and life
insurance products as well as the Companies’ other
multi-line coverages.
Phillips is associated with the Kenneth P. Kurtz
Division Office, the Mutual and United agency in
Pittston.

MARJORIE MYERS, the daughter of Byron and
Jean Myers, of 26 Tamanini Drive, R.D. 3, Wyoming,
is a member of the selected 110-voice Bucknell
University Chroale. Myers, a sophomore at Bucknell,
is an English major.
Myers sings first alto in the Chorale, which presents
programs of. secular and sacred selections. The
Chorale performs regularly both on and off campus
under the direction of William Payn.

JACQUELINE DENISE PAUL, born October 20,
1984, was baptized at the Idetown United Methodist
Church during the morning worship service. Jacque-
line is the daughter of John and Christina Paul of
Dallas. Officiating clergyperson was Rev. Michael
Shambora and the baptism was held Jan. 6.

AIRMAN DONALD E. IDE; son of J. Elliot and
Beverly J. Ide of Rural Route 4, Dallas, ahs graduated
from the U.S. Air Force jet engine mechanic course at
Chanute Air Force Base, Ill.
During the course, students were taught repair and
maintenance of jet engines with emphasis in ground
safety practiceswhen using ground support equipment.
They also earned credits toward an associate degree
through the Community College of the Air Force.
Ide is scheduled to serve with the 380th Field
Maintenance Squadron at Plattsburgh Air Force Base,
N.Y.
He is a 1984 graduate of Lake-Lehman High School.

ARMY RESERVE PVT. MATTHEW T. VAN
GORDER, son of Linda L. and Robert L. Van Gorder
of Rural Route 2, Dallas, has completed training as an
Army military police specialist under the one station
unit training (OSUT) program at Fort McClellan, Ala.
OSUT is a 13-week period which combines basic
training with advanced individual training.
Students were trained in civil and military law,
traffic control, map reading and self-defense.
He is a 1983 graduate of Lake-Lehman High School.

ROBERT A. STATNICK, son of Robert C. and Betty
M. Statnick of Rural Route 3, Dallas, has been
promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of staff
sergeant.
Statnick is a range operations supervisor with the
2nd Weather Squadron at Vandenberg Air Force Base,
Calif.
He is a 1978 graduate of Tunkhannock High School.

MARK A. WALLO, son of Andrew and June Wallo of
Rural Route 4, Dallas, has been promoted in the U.S.
Air Force to the rank of senior airman.
Wallo is a flight control systems specialist at George
Air Force Base, Calif. wit hthe 37th Component Repair
Squadron.
He is a 1974 graduate of Lake-Lehman High School.

Mollie Calkins was named
Employee of the Year for
1984 at The Meadows Nurs-
ing Center, Dallas, accord-
ing to an announcement by
John Muth, Personnel Direc-
tor. The Employee of the
Year . was chosen after
review of the award winning
suggestion by the Employee
of the Month throughout
1984. The suggestion: most
benefiting the residents at
the Meadows Nursing Center
was the basis for the award.
A graduate of Dallas Area
High School, Mrs. Calkins
has been employed at the
center since June, 1983, as
executive . secretary to
Thomas Sweeney, adminis-
trator. Mrs. Calkins and her
husband, Ken, reside in
Sweet Valley. Thomas Swee-

In ;ecent Court of Honor
A unique joint Court of Honor to recognize a Boy and
Girl Scout for earning Scoutings highest awards was
held at College Misericordia, Sunday, Jan. 6. This is
believed to be a national first. Elizabeth Williames 16,
of Senior Girl Scout Troop 634, Shavertown Methodist
Church was awarded the Gold Award, Girl Scouting’s
highest award. Lee D. Williames, 14 of Troop 232 Gate
of Heaven Church, Dallas was recognized for earning
Boy. Scouting’s highest award Eagle Scout rank.
The Court of Honor opened with a ceremony
conducted by a combined team of Girl Scouts, Boy
Scouts adn Explorer Scouts which included: Andy
Yencha, Debbie Balonis, Nathan Kelley, Jennifer
Farley, Robert Skursky, Kathy Zikor, James Strange,
Michele Farris, and Michael Dzanko. An audience of
over 150 persons was welcomed by Mr. William
Sigman, Committee Chairman for Troop and Post 232
and Mrs. Dorothy Wadas a member of the Executive
Board of the Penn’s Woods Council of the Girl Scouts.
Troop Awards were presented to Senior Troop 634 by
the Troop President Cathy Zikor with the assistance of
the Vice Presidents Ellen Bellis and Michele FArris.
Commentary was made by Mrs. Margaret Craf
Mrs. Frances Williames, the troop leaders. Elizabeth
Williames received interest patches for Heritage Hunt,
Outdoor Survival, and Paddle-Pole-and-Roli as well as
the Gold Leadership Award, Volunteer Service BAr,
Mount Yeager Certificate for Advanced Primitive
Camping and Survivian and the ‘“Clannege of Living
the Promise and Law’’ which involved a culminating
project of service to the community.
Mary Elizabeth Craft was awarded interest Patches
in Heritage Hunt, Outdoor Survival, Paddle-Pole-and-
Roll, in addition she earned the Mount Yeager
Certificate in Advanced Primitive Camping and Sur-
vival, Mount Yeager Certificate in Advanced Lifesav-
ing ARC, the Gold Leadership Award, Volunteer
Service Bar, and ‘The Challenge of Living the
Promise and the Law’”’ which involved a closing
project of service to the community.
Catherine Zikor received the Gold Leadership
Award. Michele Farris earned the Gold Leadership
Award and the Leadership interest Patch. Gwen
Larson earned the Emergency Preparedness interest
Patch. Debbie Balonis received the Ten Year Service
Bar.
Jennifer Farley completed the ‘Dreams to Reality”
certificate and earned the Silver Leadership Award.
Ellen Bellis earned the Silver Leadership Award and a
Volunteer Service Bar. Katherine Fader earned the
Silver Leadership Award and a Mount Yeager certifi-
cate for completing Advanced Lifesaving ARC at the
center.
The awards for Boy Scout Troop 232 were presented
to the troop by the Senior Patrol Leader James
Strange. Jarret Rittenhouse earned the First Aid skill
award and the Tenderfoot rank. Scouts Chris Kuhar
and Walter Fry earned the First Aid skill award.
Samuel Wilkes received his swimming skill award,
Scout Badge and Tenderfoot rank. Shane Williams
Concert set
An evening of classical music
with pianist Ronald Hockenberry
will be presented at Penn State
Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, Jan. 24
at 8 p.m. in the Community Center
of Hayfield House on the Lehman
campus. The concert is free and the
public is invited to attend. The
musician and compaeser will play a
virtuoso program featuring the
music of Chopin, Bach, Beethoven
and Schumann, among others.
Ronald Hockenberry, born in
Pleasant Gap, PA, showred an early
talent for the piano and, while in
high school, he had a weekly radio
broadcast over radio WMAJ in State
College. He graduated from West
Chester State College in 1955 and
received a master’s degree from
Penn State University in 1962.
Mr. Hockenberry is also a cellist
and a conductor. He is well known
in the Philadelphia area as a cham-
ber player and accompanist, and
has written musicals. for children,
conducted performances of ‘‘Hello
Dolly,” “Music Man,” and is foun-
der and director of the Times
Revue, a theatrical group specializ-
ing in show and popular music.
For the past few summers, he has
appeared in concerts in Europe and
has made broadcasts on the classi-
cal music network of the Nether-
lands Radio and on the Voice of
America.
Hockenberry currently teaches
Humanities in the Radnor School
District in Wayne, PA, and is direc-
tor of music at the Main Line
Unitarian Church in Devon.

Conference planned
The Trinity Nursery School of
earned the Hiking, First Aid and Environmental skill
awards as well as Second Class rank. David Casey
earned skill awards in camping, hiking, swimming,
and Tenderfoot rank.
James Fry earned the Environmental skill award,
the First Aid merit badge and the rank of First Class
Scout. John Kristan earned skill awards in Hiking,
Cooking, Family Living and First Class SCout rank.
Ronald Fitch received skill awards in Family Living,
Communications, and the Environment as well as
merit badges in First Aid and Geneology. Ronnie also
achieved First Class rank and serves as the Den Chief
for the Webelos Den.
Lee D. Williames, the President of Explorer ost 232,
presented awards to the Post members. Nathan Kelley
earned the Hiking merit badge. John Mitchell received
the First Aid skill award and Second Class Scout rank.
Robert Skursky earned Rifle and Shot Gun merit
badge and Home Repairs merit badge. Robert Row-
lands received Camping and Hiking Merit badges.
Assistant Scoutmaster Keith Thomas presented
awards to, the Troop and Post Leaders. Lee D.
Williames earned the Rifle and Shot Gun merit badge,
Home Repairs merit badge, and Hiking merit badge.
John Strange earned Rifle and Shot Gun merit badge
and Hiking merit badge. Andy Yencha Junior Assist-
ant Scoutmaster received Rifle and Shot Gun merit
badge and Hiking merit badge.
The troop was also recognized for having won the
district first aid meet and the ‘National Camping
award.
The Court of Honor concluded with a combined
Eagle and Gold Award presentation ceremony for
Elizabeth and Lee D. Williames. Opening the program
Lee played the Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Liszt.
The first speaker was Fr. William Langan of Gate of
Heaven Church an Eagle Scout and Marine Corp
Chaplain who reflected on the achievements of Lee
and Elizabeth and on their family as an example to
others. Dr. Lee J. Williames, vice president of Penn
Mountains Council of the Boy Scouts spoke on the
meaning of the Eagle as a difficult journey which only
an “individual” can accomplish. Ms. Kristin Plashin-
ski District Executive of Penn Mountains Council
talked of Lee’s individual achievements and confered
the award on him. His mother, Frances Williames
pinned his Eagle on him. In the presence of other
Eagle Scouts from the area. Among these was Bill
Davies who received his Eagle over 50 years ago.
The Gold Award presentation was begun by Mrs.
Sandy Loomis Gold Award Coordinator for Penn’s
Woods Council of the Girl Scouts who spoke on
theevolution of the Gold award and the requirements
for the award. Ms. Virginia Denn Director of Council
Sponsored Programs Penn’s Woods Council spoke on
Elizabeth’s individual achievements and confered the
Gold Award on her. Dr. Williames, Elizabeth’s father
pinned the Gold Award on his daughter. Elizabeth
closed the ceremony with a poem by Robert Frost
“The Road Not Taken.”
Dallas will hold parent-teacher con-
ferences on Jan. 24. There will be no
school for the nursery school that
day.
