DALLAS WINS
Lake-Lehman’s Lady Knights
used a balanced scoring offense in
the first period to outscore GAR 15-
6, December 22, at the Back Moun-
tain court but GAR came on strong
to outscore the Kights 10-4 and 10-5
in the second and third periods
before Pam Solinski and Sandy
Dicton came through with six points
each as their team’s pressure
defense held down the Grenadiers
and gave Lake-Lehman a 42-34 win.
Going into the final period, Lake-
Lehman fell behind 26-24 when the
Lady Knights took random shots
without concentrating on their game
plan.
Dicton led the Knights in scoring
with 17 points, putting six shots
through the nets from the court and
tossing in five-for-10 from the char-
ity stripe. Solinski finished with 10
points, going four-for-four from the
free line and putting in three two-
pointers from the playing court.
Lori Lopasky collected seven points
and C. Slocum scored six.
Despite several costly turnovers
in the final period, Lisa Blaum,
Regina Nolan and Kim Skrepenak
scored 10 points each for GAR.
The win gave the Lady Knights a
1-1 record in Division 2.
Dallas Mountaineers postponed
their game with Seton Catholic due
to inclement weather.

The holiday season cancelled out
a number of the leagues during the
past week as the bowlers took time
out to enjoy Christmas and New
Year’s Day with their families and
friends.
Among those turning in reports of
matches bowled were Bonomo’s
Major League, Our Gang, Bowler-
ettes, and Back Mountain Church
League. Next week should find all
leagues back on their regular sched-
ules.
T. Doughton scattered pins for 213
(551) and C. Kazokas and D. Purvin
hit identical 543 series to lead G.H.
Harris to four points from the
Hambos in Bonomo’s Major League.
Charlies All Stars shut out the
Bermudas with B. Cyphers knock-
ing down pins for 225 and K. Orkwis
walloping them for 222 (591). K.
Spencer toppled them for 561 and C.
Williams hit 537. Back Mt. Sporting
goods blanked Brown’s Oil led by L.
Coolbaugh who hammered the pins
for 237 (614).
In the Bowlerette League C.
Badman scattered pins for 178 but it
wasn’t enough as her Tom Reese
team dropped three points to Brent
Long who had L. Jolley’s 160. R.

Wrestling winners
The Back Mountain Wrestling
Club made a strong showing
recently when it traveled to Wyo-
ming Area for the first tournament.
[Twenty-two boys entered and 18
took home trophies. The coaches for
Back Mountain were very pleased
pm the performance of all the
boys.
Back Mountain officially starts its
season on January 6 when it travels
to Hazleton for the first dual meet.

tournament were first place, Rick

Coach Larry Schuler’s Dallas
Mountaineers posted eight pins,
Thursday, Dec. 20, in their meet
with Valley View to coast to an easy
48-22 victory.
Bryan Mathers put the Mountai-
neers on the board first when he
clamped 98-1b. Brian Picchini in
3:16.
Valley View’s Tim Connell gave
the Cougars four points when he
took an 18-9 major decision from
105-1b. Truyn Hunh.
The Mountaineers took the next
two bouts with 112-1b. Paul Burke
flattening Dan Sedlak in 2:40 and
119-1b. Bill Mathers turning over
Todd Jackson in 3:04.
The Cougars took the next two
bouts on falls before the Mountai-
neers pinned their opponents from
138-1b. through 185-Ib. Cougar Mike
Krahl pinned 126-lb. Mark Rogers in
4:29 and Cougar Randy Kordish
showed 132-1b. John Graham the
lights in 4:51.
Mountaineer Dave Hislop started
the run for Dallas when he flattened
his 138-1b. opponent, Rich Gavonis,
in 4:50. 145-1b. Coury Lingaas
clamped Cougar Jeff Galachidi in
2:59 and 155-1b. Joe Patts turned
over Cougar Bryan Ortolano in 1:20.

The Cougars heavyweight Rich
Yeselavage lost little time in taking
the final bout by overturning Moun-
taineer Tom Schact in 12 seconds,
the fastest time in the match.
Coach Ed Ladamus’ Black
Knights traveled to Troy on Satur-
day and placed eight grapplers in
the Troy Christmas Tournament to
place second. Ganton won the tour-
nament with 1471, points and Lake-
Lehman finished second with 145.
Heavyweight Chris Van Gorder
was named MVP in the tournament,
winning all three of his bouts with
falls in the opening period. Matt
Reinert took the 98-lb. title, 105-1b.
Jeff Austin used three pins to take
his weight class title. 126-lb. Joe
Smith came in second and 132-1b.
Bob Buzinski placed fourth. 138-1b.
title and Ed Stratford took the 185-
Ib. weight class. 145-1Ib. Doug Ide
finished fourth. her Nez
The Lake-Lehman Junior High
School wrestling team participated
in Hazleton’s Fifth Annual Wres-
tling Tournament on December 22
and finished with two fourth places.
Jimmy Cole, 75 pounds and Scott
Brigman, 110 pounds, finished in
fourth place.
Charles Allen, 130 pounds, fin-
ished in third place while Chris
Fredericks, 120 pounds, and Scott
Schafer, heavyweight, both won
first place awards.
Other decisions were Scott Breg-
man, decision; Jimmy Cole, deci-
sion; Charles Allen, decision; and
Chris Fredericks, decision.
The next match for the Lake-
Lehman Junior High Wrestling
team is Saturday, Jan. 5, at 10 a.m.
at Wyoming Area.
Tommy Williams is the team’s
coach while Phil Lipski is the assist-
ant coach.
For the losers, Andy Chandler
drilled in 24 points while Drew
Regan scored 12.
Humphrey’s retaliated with a 68-
64 victory over Union Petroleum as
Steve Metzgers led all scorers with
25 points. Frank Bogden added 22
and Bill Lozo chipped in 10 in the
winning efforts.
For Union, D. Fetko scored 16
followed by R. Davis with 10, D.
Crossin with 10 and B. Andres with
12.
Union Petroleum took an 86-79
victory over Jones Pancakes behind
Frank Crossin’s 25 points. Also
aiding the victory were D. Crossin
with 23 points and Dan Fetko with
22 counters.
P. Darling was high man for
Jones’ with 23 points while Drew
Regan added 18. B. Sickler and
Andy Chandler each scored 11
points in the losing effort.
Frank Bogdan drilled in 22 points
to lead Humphrey’s to a 92-73
squashing of Vivian’s. Aiding the
cause were P.J. Delaney and Steve
Metzger with 19 points each.
Glenn Ide drilled in 24 points for
Vivian’s while Scott Wimmer added
19 and Traver had 12.
Union Petroleum squeaked by
Maher’s, 82-88, during last week’s
action in the Lehman-Noxen Adult
Recreational"Basketball League.
Frank Crossin dumped in 22
points for the winners while Bruce
Andres added 20 to the winning
cause. Teammates Deke Crossin,
Don Wolfe and Dan Fetko added 14
and 10 respectively.
For Maher’s, Jim Spencer was

Maher’s pulled off an upset over
Humphrey's later in the week by
taking an 84-80 overtime ' victory
from the strong Humphrey’s team.
Rocko Miller, Don Jones and Jim
Spencer all had 20 points each for
the winners while Bob Wiliams
added 10.
Maher’s got another victory by
slipping by Jones’ Pancakes, 65-60
behind the sharp shooting of Kevin
Coombs and Jim Spencer with 18
points apiece. Rocko Miller dumped
in 11 in the winning cause.
