Both tours give me a good idea of how our early settlers in Wyoming Valley lived. The Nathan Denison family was Congregationalist so they did not celebrate Christmas in any frivolous manner. How- =z ; ever, foods dis- played were served to com- pany on Sundays, the only holiday celebrated by this religious group. We also heard about the Denison family and were also introduced to three soldiers dressed in Revo- "= ; lutionary War uni KINGSBURY forms; a civilian or irregular sol- dier, a rifleman and a regular soldier. The Swetland Home was trans- fored into a Victorian Christmas. Decorated with pine and candles, members of the Swetland family (actually volunteers portraying var- ious Swetlands) Welsh cookies were baking on a griddle over the fire- place in the kitchen. The dining room was set with the families best dishes for Christmas dinner. The living room held the decorated Christmas tree; beneath it popular toys of the day; porcelain doll, a carved ship, a wooden flute. This was a great way to learn about our Valley’s heritage. MR.
