The Rowdies of the U-14 Division, coached by Herb
Weidlich and Bob Graver, defeated the Cosmos in a
double overtime shootout game on Oct. 26. After both
teams played fantastic soccer for the full regulation
Rowdies was Fred Ebert while the Cosmo team got its
goal from Kenny Kozel. After two five-minute over-
times, the teams were still knotted at 1-1. Final
outcome of the game was then decided by a shoot out
which consists of five players from each team taking
alternating shots on goal. The Rowdies outscored the
Cosmos in the shootout wiht goals by John Masley and
the deciding goal put in by Chris Graver.
The offense of the Rowdies was led by Al Manzoni
and Jeff Tinner, while the defense counted on the
talents of Steve Sours, Randy Perry, Heather Chad-
wick and Jim Manzoni. Other players doing a super
job throughout the game and entire season were Leigh
Ann Weidlich, Karen Klick, Liz Malone and Matt Shea.
The goaltending during the game was handled by Jim
Milaskus of the Cosmos and Howie Hopson of the
Rowdies with both goalies having exceptional games.
Brian Hampel, Wendy Hozempa, Victor Matthews,
and Eric Nardone turned in a super effort for the
losing Cosmos. Th game proved to be one of the most
exciting games in the Back Mountain Soccer League
and provided much excitement and pleasure for the
many spectators present.
ROWDIES WIN TOURNEY
On Sunday, Nov. 25, the Back Mt. Rowdies defeated
the W-B Cosmos by a score of 5-0. The Rowdies
dominated the entire game with excellent team
passing and defensive play. The J.C.C. Tournament
championship concluded the Rowdies most successful
season. The Rowdies ended their year with a 19-3
record which included two tournament championships.

Tourney held
Several Back Mountain Youth Soccer team members
participated in the recent dedication of the William ‘‘Bill”’
Lipo Memorial Soccer Field located at College Misericordia.
The field is part of an athletic and recreation complex under
construction at the Dallas college. the soccer field was
made possible, in part, by a gift from InterMetro Industries
Corp., Wilkes-Barre. The gift was made in memory of Bill
Lipo, a volunteer leader in. the Back Mountain Youth Soccer
Association program. Participants in the dedication cere-
mony include, first row: David Fisher, Chargers and Susan
Fisher, Sockers. Second row:. Tara Chadwich, Lancers; Carl
Wiedlich, Sockers; Mrs. William Lipo; Kevin Kozel, Cosmos
and Keith Kozel, Roughnecks. Third row: Ken Kozel,
Cosmos; Frank Chadwick, Rowdies; Heather Chadwick,
Rowdies; Leigh Ann Wiedlich, Rowdies and Jonathan Ross,
Roughnecks.

The game was played at Kirby Park with scoring by
Jeff Tinner, Brian Hampel, Tommy Shone and two
goals coing off the foot of Hugh Mundy. The success of
the Rowdies team in this game and throughout the
entire season was due to a great team effort by all
players.
Other members of the winning Rowdies are Al
Manzoni, John Masley, Leigh Ann Weidlich, Chris
Graver, ’Matt Shea, Fred Ebert, Victor Matthews, Jim
Manzoni, Karen Klick, Hugh Mundy, Liz Malone,
Steve Sours, Heather Chadwick and Howie Hopson.
This was the second annual J.C.C. Tournament
sponsored by the Jewish Community Center with Rick
Evans as the tournament coordinator. All participat-
ing players of winning teams were presented a trophy
donated by the Fitzpatrick family.
CHARGERS WIN
Center Tournament in the U-12 Division, the Back
In the first quarter, the game was a stalemate with
defenders Lisa Vozniak and Mike Matasky controlling
the action. In the second quarter and after fine mid-
field play by Rick Lamoreaux and Greg Stahovec,
David Fisher scored an unassisted goal to break the
deadlock. In the third quarter, the Chargers were able
to retain their 1-0 lead with fine defensive play by Jim
Reynolds, Mickey Orkwis and Marsha Garcia. In the.
fourth quarter and with outstanding defensive play by
Jeff Dover and Brian Miller, David Fisher took a shot
which hit the cross bar and Steven Oliver, who played
ball and scored.
Patrick Kilduff and Chris Boraski shared the goal
tending duties and were credited with the shutout.
