Cub Scout Pack 281 met recently at Dallas United
Methodist church. Opening ceremonies were held with
the entire pack participating.
Cub Master George Brutko announced the Haney
Sales Kit project was a great success and thanked the
boys for doing such a wonderful selling job. Crafts
done by the dens were on display. Den 3, under the
leadership of Melinda Seidel, gave some helpful
suggestions for a safe Halloween. The ‘Cubby Award”
was given to the den who arrived first. It was a tie and
month. Den leaders of those dens are Sharon Hold-
redge and Jackie Downend. Closing ceremonies were
done with the entire pack and everyone enjoyed
refreshments afterwards.

~The Luzerne-Wyoming County Mental Health-Mental
Retardation Center recently held its 15th Anniversary
Dinner Meeting at the Woodlands, an Inn in Plains
Township. This affair was attended by more than 175
staff, board members, agency personnel and friends
who gathered to celebrate the Center’s 15th year of
delivering specialized psychiatric services to its com-
munity. :
Dean George F. Ralston of Wilkes College served as
Master of Cermonies and joined Board President
Thomas O’Neill in presenting awards to staff and
Board members who have served the Mental Health
Center since it opened its doors in July, 1969. Five and
10 year service awards were also presented to staff
and board members. Rev. Andrew Pillarella of Dallas,
a member of the Center’s Board of Directors, offered
the invocation.
During the course of the meeting, guests reminisced
about the events that had influenced the Center during
the past 15 years. It was recognized that the Center
survived the severe federal cutbacks and continues to
meet the varying and growing needs of its community
by offering specialized services in innovative ways.
Executive Director John Creek also charted the course
of the future of the Center with remarks about the-
agency’s long range strategic planning process.

Committee were also presented and approved as
follows: Thomas O’Neill, President; Rev. James J.
Doyle, Vice President; Louise Wasserott, Secretary;
and Attorney Charles J. Bufalino, Jr., Treasurer.
JOHANNA MILLER of the

recently attended BEAUTY U.S.A,
the largest hair and beauty trade
show ever held in the middle East-
ern United States.
Johanna viewed the fall and
“winter hair collections of the

pretations of the newest hair

MRS. IRMA EICKE, of 29 Lehigh
St., Shavertown, has returned home
after being a medical patient at
Nesbitt Memorial Hospital, Kings-
ton.

KRISTINA BOUDREAUX, daugh-
ter of Ronald and Melba Boudreaux,
RD 3, Box 45, Wyoming, has
enrolled at Messiah College in Gran-
tham, Pennsylvania, with a Dean’s
Scholarship for the 1984-1985 aca-
demic year.
A freshman majoring in psychol-
ogy, Boudreaux is a graduate of
Dallas Senior High School.
Dean’s Scholarships ranging from
Fashion Naok
$500 to $1,250 are awarded annually
to incoming freshmen who ranked
in the top 15 percent of their high
school graduating calss, and scored
at least a total of 1000 on the
Composite American College Test.
A Christian college of the arts and
sciences, Messiah College enrolls
just over 1750 students in over 40
majors and preprofessional pro-
grams.
Investiture held
staff of the Family Counseling Serv-
ice of the Philadelphia Yearly Meet-
ing of Friends (Quakers), according
to word received from Philadelphia
this week.
Mrs. Osborn, who received her
MSW from Ohio State University
School of Social Work, will remain
in the area as a family and-mar-
riage counselor and, in addition,
will be available for Quaker fami-
lies and members of the Society of
Friends who desire counseling in
the Northeast Pennsylvania area.
Mrs. Osborn is a Clinical Member of
the American Association of Mar-
riage and Family Therapists.
The Family Counseling Service of
the Yearly Meeting of Friends has a
staff of 15 counselors, professionally
trained, who offer individual coun-
seling, support groups, and work-
shops in the Philadelphia area,
including outlying counties.
The Counseling Service recently
held a day-long workshop on
“Family Wellness”, led by David
and Vera Mace, well-known family
and marriage counselors and foun-
ders of the Association of Couples
for Marriage Enrichment.
The workshop took up the prob-
lems of step-parenting, one-parent
families, domestic violence and nur-
turing the spiritual life of the
family.
The North Branch Friends Meet-
ing meets regularly for worship at
the Wyoming Seminary Day School
in Forty Fort.

recently admitted two women to
candidacy for membership in the
Mercy Community.
Suzanne Thoma, the daughter of
Patricia and Frank Thoma, R.D. 3,
Wyoming, was welcomed by Sister
Development, Sisters of Mercy,
Scranton Province, at a ceremony
held at St. Vincent Convent, Plym-
outh. Miss Thoma is a graduate of
Dallas High School and College Mis-

Brownie Troop 651 recently held an Investiture Ceremony in the All-Purpose Room of the
Girl Scout flag ceremony, recited the Girl Scout promise and lighted a candle for each of the 10
Girl Scout laws. The girls received their Brownie pins and were welcomed into the troop. After
the program, parents and relatives were invited to the cafeteria for refreshments. Shown here

Hastings, Cambria County, was hon-
ored at a ceremony at Catherine
McAuley House, Scranton. Sister
Virginia Bertschi, Director of Minis-
try, Scranton Province, presided.
The daughter of Margaret and
Donald J. Holtz, Sr., Miss Holtz
graduated from Cambria Heights
High School and Slippery Rock Col-
lege with a B.S. Degree in Health

The Social Club of the Meadows
Apartments in Dallas, enjoyed a
bag luncheon at noon on Wednes-
day, Nov. 7. The soup was prepared
and donated by the Kiwanis Club of
the Back Mountain. Two decorated
cakes and coffee were served by the
Social Club committee.
The club will hold their annual
Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday,
Nov. 15 at 5 p.m.
The Christmas Tree trimming
party will be held on Thursday,
Nov. 29, with all residents partici-
pating in decorating the tree.
