CLIPBOARD NOTES:
— The kicking game could be a
big factor in the outcome of the
Dallas-Lake-Lehman grid clash
this week. Mountaineers will rely
on Gerald Mihalick, while the
: Knights have Chris Van Gorder.
Both "can boom the punts and
give their respective teams field
position.
— Crestwood
Coach Sam Elias
told me last week
that he’s been to
three schools for
spring clinics and
those teams have
won the national
title that fall. He |

Georgia and
Penn State.
Guess where Sam visited last
spring? South Carolina.
— PSU fans last week weren’t
bragging much about victory
over Boston College. However,
most were heaping praise on
gifted Doug Flutie for his
remarkable passing.
— How about the superbly
played Army-Air Force game
which was aired by ESPN? It
was one of the best games I've
seen. I enjoy watching any team
that runs the option or Wish-
bone. To me that’s great for
college football.
— In gathering information for
the Dallas-Lake-Lehman show-
down this week various coaches
pointed out to me that Mountai-
neers were simply outmuscled in
key situations during most of
their losses this season. I look for
the Mountaineers to mature
more physically by next season.
— 1 can’t understand why
more collegiate teams don’t have
two or even three quarterbacks
ready to perform on game day.
This always amazed me about
Coach Bear Bryant when he
commanded the Tide. He turned
out more exceptional field gener-
als than any coach I can think of.
He wasn’t bashful at using two or
even three when his starter
couldn’t generate the offense.
— What’s the big deal about
pro teams and college teams
saving timeouts? Most announ-
cers make .too much about it.
Heck, they get three and some-
times even four extra timeouts
from the TV folks.
— Why are people turned off
by the NFL? All of the rules
changes which were put in to
hype the offenses have made the
game too one-sided. I can’t buy
the single bump of receivers and
the ‘in the grasp’ which is to
protect the QBs. Sometimes the
zebras are too quick with the
whistle. Finally, pro football is
really too stereotyped.
— The rule which has most
former players I know laughing
is ‘the ground can’t cause a
fumble.’ I’d like to know the jerk
that dreamed that one up. That’s
why the NFL to me is the No
Fumble League!

with Lackawanna Trail when Laura
Dominick’s speed paced her team to
a 3-0 win over the Lady Knights.
The Knights, who finished with a 14-
3-2 record, need not be disappointed
because they played to 100 percent
of their potential in the playoff
game with the Lions.
“They played very well,” said

dribbles very well and is hard to
catch. She also passes the ball off as
well as she scores. She is a natural.
The entire Lackawanna Trail team
plays a fast game. Speed is their
style of playing. They play as a
team but keep things moving.
If the Lady Knights get to the
playoffs next season (and Coach
Lipski hopes to), they will have
done their homework on speed on
offense in the circle. Of that their
opponents can be sure.
Lion Katie Mcintyre scored the
first goal for the team at 15:18 into
the half, assisted by Lisa Nourse.
Dominic scored the second goal
unassisted at 16:03 into the half. She
scored the third goal 25:20 into the
second half unassisted.
Lackawanna Trail had 18 corners,
Lake-Lehman eight. Lake-Lehman
had 20 shots on goal, Trail had 22.
Cindy Slocum had nine saves for the
Knights.
