The Lake-Lehman girls’ field
hockey team shut out GAR, 12-0,
Monday afternoon on the Grena-
diers’ field and achieved the double
feat of winning two titles.
The win gave the Lady Knights
e Wyoming Valley Conference AA
title and also the District 2 title for
Division AA. The local girls won the
District 2 title without a playoff
since Carbondale, the Lackawanna
County AA leader, did not win 75
percent of its league games. Penn-
sylvania Interscholastic Athletic
Association (PIAA) rules stipulate
that this is necessary in order that a
team may participate in post-season
play.
Knights Coach Jean Lipski was
elated with the girls’ achievement
especially after the team had lost
two games to Wyoming Seminary
within eight days. Lipski said her
girls have worked hard all season to
achieve the Wyoming Valley Divi-
sion AA title and to take that and
the district title in one game felt
great.
' Kelly Wandel led the Knights in
scoring with four goals and an
assist to lead the team to a 14-2-1
record for the season.
I'he Knights have a makeup game
mh Dallas Oct. 30, however, the
outcome of the game will not affect
the Lehman girls’ title since the
Mountaineers have three losses and
two ties.
fi DEFEAT O'REILLY
Lake-Lehman girls hockey team
did not let their loss to Wyoming
Seminary get them down and
proved it Monday, Oct. 15, by
defeating Bishop O'Reilly 4-0 for
their 12th shutout of the season.
Knight Deanna Knorr scored 13:00
into the first half to give Lake-
Lehman girls their first score. Susie
Slocum made it 2-0 at 18:45 into the
half. Both girls scored unassisted.
Knorr gave the Knights their third
goal of the first half when she
scored on an assist by Sandy
Dicton.
The Knights picked up the final
score of the game when she hit one
in the goal off an assist by Susie
Slocum at 11:30 in the second half.
Goalie Cindy Slocum had two
saves ‘for the Knights. Lori Connally
had 14 saves for the Queenswomen.
The Knights had 25 shots on goal
and 20 corners. O’Reilly had three
shots on goal and two corners.
SQUEAK BY NORTHWEST
The Lady Knights edged by
Northwest 3-2 on Wednesday, Oct.
17, when Dicton scored on a penalty
stroke at 8:10 in the second half to
break a 2-2 tie.
The Knights took a 2-0 lead in the
first half which they held until
Northwest’s Dina McGovern scored
the first of her two goals at 1:46
inthe second half. She scored her
second goal at 6:07 in the second
penalty for movement was made
against the Knights goalie.
Knorr scored the Knights first
goal on an assist by Dicton at 2:56
in the first half and Susie Slocum,
assisted by B.J. Sorber, scored the
second goal at 19:11 into the first
half.

for the Knights, Northwest’s Lisa
Vandermark had eight saves. The
two teams tied on shots on goal with
14 each. The Lady Knights had eight
corners, the Rangers had 11.
DALLAS LOSES
Dallas girls were idle on Monday
but fell to 8-3-2 on Wednesday when
they were nipped 2-1 by Crestwood
Comet Diane Madl put her team
in front 1-0 when she scored her
first goal unassisted at 23:00 into
the first half. Mountaineer Jill Rad-
zinski tied it up at 1-1 when she
scored unassisted at 22:00 in the
second half.
Madl gave Crestwood the win
when she scored on an assist by Sue
Bing at 25:00 in the second half.
Both teams played well but Crest-
wood’s defense held when it was
needed.
The Mountaineers have only the
game with Lake-Lehman remaining
on their 1984 schedule.

Coach John McCafferty’s Dallas
High School soccer team defeated
Wyoming Valley West 3-1 last Tues-
day to move within half a game of

their win. Tim Cotter scored the
outher goal for Dallas on an assist

on the sidelines, sophomore goalie
John Sheehan had six saves for the
Mountaineers. Monto had 11 for the
Spartans.

the first period but Coter knocked in
the first goal of the game 12:30 into
the second period.

Williams scored for Valley West on
an assist by J. Ferris 30 seconds
into the frame, to tie it up at 1-1.

the third period then moved it to 3-1
