The Mountai- neers defeated Crestwood, 19-36, but lost, 25-32, to Lake-Lehman on Monday, Oct. 15, 25-32. The Lake- Lehman Knights took two wins defeating Dallas 15-32 and Crest- wood 1843. The win upped the Knights record to 13-1 while Dallas moved to 5-8. On Thursday, the Dallas runners took two wins defeating Nanticoke 17-41 and overcoming Hazleton 23- 32. Hazleton defeated Nanticoke 15- 43. The Dallas cindermen will go into Districts, Oct. 25, with a 7-8 record. The Mountaineers, under Coach Don Hosey, made a good showing after beginning the season with only three boys coming out for the team. Hosey’s perseverance and recruit- ment resulted in a full team of both boys and girls to finish the season. Mountaineer Mark Wright, after an early season injury, set a course record last Monday by turning in an 18:04, the new 3.2 mile course at Dallas. He broke the previous record set by Coughlin’s Chris DeCenti, who ran the course in 18:27 earlier in the year. It was Wright’s eighth first place finish this season. Lake-Lehman’s Dave Janiczek finished second and also broke DeCenti’s record with a time of 18:22. In the girls meet, Crestwood won on forfeits by Dallas and Lake- Lehman. Hazleton defeaded Nanticoke in a close 27-28 meet. Lake-Lehman’s Coach Ed Nar- kiewicz’ runners closed out the season with wins over Coughlin and Meyerson the Knights course Thurs- day, Oct. 18. Coughlin Chris DeCinti came in first in 15:21 to break Knight John Wendel’s record of 15:22 set in 1981. Meyers Andy Krawczeniuk placed second in 15:51 but the Knights edged Coughlin 26-29 and took Meyers 27-28 to up their record to 15-1 and hold second place in the Wyoming Valley Conference just one game behind the Pittston Patriots. The Knights only loss was to Pittston in the opening meet of the season. Dave Janiczek of Lake-Lehman finished third in 15:58, Coughlin’s Charles Conkoin placed fourth with 16:10 and John Rosencrans came in fifth for Lake-Lehman with a time of 16:22. The top two teams and the next seven individual place winners will qualify in Division AAA. The Dallas Varsity Cheerleaders will journey to Penn State Univer- sity, State College, on Saturday, Oct. 27, to compete in the National High School Cheerleading Champi- onship Eastern Regionals. Winners in this event will advance to the finals held on March 2-3 at Sea World, Orlando, Fla. which are nationally televised on ESPN. The 1984-85 Dallas squad brought home the first place trophy from the Universal Cheerleading Camp for their presentation set to music.
