    PTO organizes
Dallas Post/Joan Kingsbury
Pat Russin, guidance counselor at
Dallas Senior High has announced
that the juniors will be able to join
one million other students around
the world in taking the Preliminary
Scholastic Aptitude Tests-National
Merit Scholarship qualifying Test
(PSAT-NMSQT) this fall. The test,
co-sponsored by the College Board
and national Merit Scholarship Cor-
poration is an important step in
making college plans.
Scheduled for Saturday, October
20, 1984 at 8:30 a.m. (doors upen at
8 a.m.) the test measures verbal
and mathematical aptitude - two
abilities important in doing college
work. The test can also lead to other
opportunities for high school stu-
dents; they can enter the competi-
tion for scholarships administered
by the National Merit Scholarship
corporation; they can participate in
College Board’s Student Search
Service which is used by hundreds
of colleges interested in students
like them, also they can get a good
idea what the Scholastic Aptitude

Test (SAT) is like.
Juniors who are interested in
taking PSAT-NMSQT are to register
in the guidance office at Dallas
Senior High School. The fee for
taking the test is $5 payable upon
registration. The deadline for regis-
tering for the test is October 12,
1984.
ASVAB
given at
Dallas
Dallas juniors will be given the
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude
Battery (ASVAB) on October 4, with
approval of the Dallas Schol Board.
This battery is being given stu-
dents as part of the students’ career
counseling program. The results of
the test will be used to give the
students information on their apti-
tude for certain jc b areas.
The ASVAB test is a service given
to school districts free of cost by the
Armed Services. Many high schools
across the country have endoresed
using this battery as part of their
career counseling program.
In addition to the ASVARB, as part
of career counseling, during the
school year, the juniors at Dallas
will also be given an Interst Inven-
tory (VIESA) and they will work
individually with the computer-
based Guidance Information
System.
All these sources will be used to
help the student match interest and
aptitude with current job and job
training information. The program
is designed to give students as much
information as possible to aid in
their career choices.

FRANCIS BAINES is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Baines of
Dallas. Francis has been a member
of the Dallas Band for seven years.
For six of those years, he played the
saxophone and this year, Francis is
the assistant drum major. Francis
has also been a member of the
Lehman Twp. Volunteer Fire Com-
pany for one year and he plans to
continue with the fire company
after graduation while also attend-
ing LCCC part time.
A.J. BITTNER is the son of
Clarke and Joanne Bittner of RD 5,
Dallas. A.J. is a member of the
Dallas baseball team and was hon-
ored last year by making second
team all-scholastic. He is also a
member of the steering committee,
student council, and the golf team.
A.J. previously participated in foot-
ball and basketball, but a serious
injury restricted further play. A.J.’s
future plans include attending col-
lege and majoring in the medical
field. However, he has not yet pin-
pointed a specific medical area.
KERRIE BONAWITZ is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Evan
Bonawitz of Trucksville. Kerrie is
captain of the cheerleading squad
and has been a member of the
squad for three years. After gradua-
tion, Kerrie plans to attend college
for a marketing degree.
HUGH BOYES is the son of Mrs.
Peggy Boyes and the late Mr.
Warren C. Boyes. Hugh and his
mom reside on Country Club Road
in Dallas. He is presently a member
of AFS, a club having to do with
foreign exchange students. After
graduation, Hugh plans to join the
Navy.
CATHY BRADY is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. John Brady of
Trucksville. Cathy is an active stu-
dent who is a member of the student
council and the marching band’s
silk squad. She is also a statistician
for the basketball team and works
at the Bonanza Steak House. Cathy
is awaiting a reply from Clarion
State University where she antici-
pates to major in psychology.
LORI BRANDT is the daughter of
Truman and Geraldine Brandt of
Highland Ave., in Trucksville. Lori
is presently the co-captain of the
girls volleyball team and enjoys it
very much. Lori’s future plans
include attending St. Luke’s Schogj
of Nursing in Bethlehem, PA. whe
she has already been accepted.
TAMMY BROBST is the daughter
of Beverly and Eugene Brobst of
Trucksville. Tammy’s favorite class
is accounting and she plans to
attend college after graduation for a
degree in Criminal Justice.

THE GIRLS’ FIELD HOCKEY
TEAM recorded two wins this week
over Meyers and Wyoming Valley
West, and also a tie with Abington
Heights. Keep up the good work

RUMOR HAS IT that the Dallas
Marching Band is traveling to the
tropical paradise of Hawaii for their
second band trip. Fact or Fic-
tion????
VINCENT VESPICO III is the son
of Mr. Vincent Vespico of Harveys
Lake. A transfer student from
W.V.W. Vince is an avid sports
enthusiast. Water skiing and bicy-
cling are just two of the many
activities he enjoys in the summer.
After graduation, Vince plans to
attend either Scranton or Temple
University to pursue a career as a
physical therapist.
DONNA DEGENNARO is the
daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Patrick
DeGennaro of Shavertown. She has
spent her years at Lake-Lehman
participating in such activities as
cheerleading, tennis, field hockey,
and the Yearbook staff. She plays
right wing on the undefeated hockey
team and has plans of attending
college and majoring in astronomy.
P.J. MALAK is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Paul Malak of Chase. P.J.’s
fishing. He is also a member of the
football and baseball teams. P.J.
hopes to attend Cornell next year
and major in criminal justice.
LORI LOPASKY is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Richrd Lopasky of
Lehman. ‘In her spare time Lori
enjoys reading, jogging and swim-
ming. She also participates in field
hockey, basketball and softball. Her
future plans include college at Syra-
cuse University with a probable
major in sports therapy.

“GENERIC DANCE’’ was spon-
sored by the Key Club Saturday at
the Lehman Fire Hall. Disc jockeys
were Bob Hackling and ‘‘Jumpin’”
Joe Lieb. Fellow Key Clubbers from
Wyoming Area, Dallas and Tunk-
hannock also attended with every-
one dressed in black and white in
keeping with the ‘‘generic’’ theme.

THE KNIGHTS CROSS COUN-
TRY TEAM defeated Hanover 23-32
and WVW 15-42 in a recent tri-meet
held at Lehman’s 2.9 mile course.
Dave Janiczek continued his win-
ning by crossing the line first in
15:44.

THE SIXTH, SEVENTH AND
EIGHTH GRADES attended an ori-
entation meeting last week regard-
ing the procedure for student coun-
cil elections. Rules were explained
in reference to campaign posters in
the school. The elections will take
place in early November.

THIS YEAR the students in
grades 3, 5 and 8 will take the
TELLS tests. (Tests for Essential
Donna Greger
Learning and Literacy Skills).
These tests are to be offered each
year by Governor Dick Thornburgh
as part of an educational program
to prevent illiteracy. Reading and
mathematics are the subject matter
of the tests.

RECENTLY OUR SCHOOL CAF-
ETERIA LOST its excellent man-
ager, Mrs. Mary Lou Stahovec who
has given eight years of dedicated
service in providing good lunches to
the children of Gate of Heaven
School. Mrs. Stahovec has our grati-
tude and best wishes as she begins
her new employment at Common-
wealth Telephone Co. Qur new man-
ager is Mrs. Barbara Hagan who
will be assisted in the kitchen by
Mrs. Bettijane Dowd and Mrs. Carol
Yatsko. We extend a grateful wel-
come to the new staff.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Eighth grader, Russell Bigus is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell
Bigus of Elmcrest Drive, Dallas.
Such sports as hunting, fishing and
basketball are Russell’s favorites.
He enjoys the outdoor life. His
hopes are high that he will be on the
basketball team this year. His edu-
cational plans are to attend a Catho-
lic High School. He likes hard rock
music; a favorite song being
‘“‘Sharp-Dressed Man” by ZZ Top.
Someday Russell hopes to become a
doctor.
