Women meet
Alderson United Methodist
Women held their regular Septem-
ber meeting Thursday evening at
the home of Arnold Garinger with
Mildred Garinger and Dorothy
Marsh as hostesses.
Devotions were led by Iva Wall
with prayer by Rev. Kennard. The
theme for the evening was “Korea,
especially stressing Ewha Univer-
sity located in Seoul, and claimed to
be the largest Women’s University
in the world. Guest speaker was
Miss Lounetta Lorah, retired mis-
sionary who spent many years serv-
ing in Japan and visiting Korea
several times. She showed slides
and gave an interesting talk on her
experiences there.
Mrs. Kyong Piatt helped plan the
regreshments which consisted of
pear salad, rice cakes, nuts, and
raw apples prepared Korean style.
Eleanor Puterbaugh presided at
the business meeting during which
time favorable reports were given
on the Picnic Supper and program
at the home of Bill and Doris
Anderson; Farewell Dinner honor-
ing Peg Garey; and plans were
finalized for a trip to the Methodist
Manor in Tunkhannock on Sat. Sept.
15 with Virginia Swanson and Millie
Garinger presenting the program
and Marguerite Cauda and Eleanor
Puterbaugh in charge of refresh-
ments and transportation. Fall
Rummage Sale was announced for
Oct. 5 and 6 and Bake sale on Sat.,
Oct. 6 at the church 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Everyone was reminded to submit
‘““ads’’ and names for the 1985 birth-
day calendar.
Regreshments were served from
an appropriately and beautifully
decorated table. Present were Iva

Anderson, Susan Arasin, Marguerite
Cauda, Ann Coulton, Amelia Daves,
Sue Dodd, Marge Garinger, Mildred
Garinger, Ester Grey, Alice Hold-

Marsh, Betty mintzer, Eleanor Put-
erbaugh, Elsie Rauch, Ethel roden,

Walter R. Heed, West Chester, Pa.
The bride is the granddaughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Leo P. Larios of
Kingston, N.Y. and the late Mr. and
Mrs. James A. Veras of Scranton.
The bridegroom is the grandson of
Mrs. Warren D. Heed, West Ches-
ter, Pa. and the late Mr. and Mrs.
C. Louis Allen of New York and
LaJolla, California.
The Rev. Herbert G. Nahas,
Wilkes-Barre, and the Rev. George
Dimopoulos, Scranton, performed
the double-ring ceremony at St.
Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox
Church, Wilkes-Barre.
The bride, attired in the gown and
Belgian lace mantilla worn by her
mother, was escorted to the altar by
her father.
Miss Cynthia P. Veras, Shaver-
town, was her sister’s maid of
honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Anne
Kline, Bethlehem; Mrs. Meredith
Luckewicz, Villanova, Pa.; and
Mrs. Karen Pfeffer, Hollidaysburg,
Pa.
Peter Heed, of Keene, New Hamp-
shire, was best man for his brother.
Ushers were Mr. McLain Hawk-
ridge, Washington, D.C.; Mr.
Michael Kelly, Wilmington, Dela-
ware and Mr. Robert Mostertz, Jr.,
Barrington, Rhode Island.
Following the ceremony, a recep-
tion was held at the Westmoreland
Club.
Mrs. Heed, a cum laude graduate
of Wyoming Seminary, was gradu-
ated from Lehigh University, Beth-
lehem, Pa. and received a juris
doctorate degree from the Dickin-
son School of Law, Carlisle, Pa. She
expects to be an Assistant District
Attorney in Chester County, Pa.
Mrs. Heed is a provisional member
of the Junior League.
Mr. Heed, an attorney, was grad-
uated from Phi Beta Kappa from
Trinity College, Hartford, Connecti-
cut. He received his juris doctorate
degree from the Dickinson School of
Law, where he was a member of the
Dickinson Law Review. He is an
associate with the firm of Gaw-
throp, Greenwood and Halstead,
West Chester.
After a wedding trip to Hawaii,
the couple will reside in West Ches-
ter.
Employee honored
according
Mr. and Mrs. Donald J. Evans, of
Church Street, Dallas, celebrated
their 56th wedding anniversary on
Wednesday, Sept. 19. They were
married on September 19, 1928, in
the First Presbyterian Church in
Northumberland, by the Rev. Ches-
ter Todd.
Mrs. Evans is the former Arline
Shannon of Lee Park.
The couple has two sons, Donald
J., Jr., of Strasburg, Virginia; and
Terry S., of Dallas. They also have
five grandchildren, Kim and Jill
Evans of Virginia; Steven, Christo-
pher and Karen Evans of Dallas.
Mr. Evans is a retired school
teacher from the Dallas School Dis-
trict.
The fall candystriping program at
Nesbitt Memorial Hospital will
begin Monday, Oct. 1. All teenagers
interested in volunteering their time
and services should contet the hos-
pital’s Community Relations
Department at 288-1411, extension
4025, by Wednesday, Sept. 19 to
ensure enrollment.
The program features orientation
sessions on the 25th and 26th of
September when candystripers will
be given a tour of the hospital, learn
various hospital rules and regula-
tions, as well as participate with an
instructor in basic hospital duties.
These duties include correct proce-
dures in hospital bed making and
proper care for handling patients in
wheelchairs.

For nearly 20 years the Nesbitt
Candystriping Program has been
highly regarded, with the candystri-
pers’ service and assistance greatly
appreciated throughout the hospital.
The recently completed summer
program attracted more than 100
teens who participated in many
hospital departments including
physical therapy, radiology, and
various nursing units. These can-
dystripers learned valuable lessons
in dedication, spirit and caring for
others at the hospital by working
with hospital staff members and
patients on a daily basis.
Nesbitt Memorial Hospital’s Can-
dystriping Program continues year-
round with sessions in the spring,
summer and fall.

Members of the Nesbitt Memorial
Hospital Auxiliary recently attended
a luncheon meeting at the Irem
Temple Country Club, Dallas. Plans
were discussed for the Auxiliary’s
upcoming Holiday Fair scheduled
for Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m.
to 8 p.m. in the auditorium, Nesbitt
Medical Arts Building, 534 Wyoming
Ave., Kingston.
This year will be the 20th anniver-
sary of the Auxiliary’s Holiday
Fair. According to Mrs. Federick
Eck, chairman of the 1984 Holiday
Fair, the theme will be “China,”
denoting this special 20th year anni-
versary.
The Shavertown Auxiliary Branch
is coordinating the fair and will be
assisted by all other branches. The
auxiliary will also serve food in the
third floor lounge of the Medical
Arts Building from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

win the title of Miss America, area
residents were very lucky to have
such a lovely lady representing us
in a national pageant. Good luck,
Gina, during your year as Miss

Jr. and the late William E. Helfrich,
Jr. Joe is the son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Frank J. Brennan, Swoyers-
ville, He is employed by the Sunday
Independent.
They are the parents of three
children, Wiliam F., an accountant
with the brokerage firm, Donaldson,
Lufkin and Jennrette, New York
City; Beth, on the administrative
staff of Laventhol and Horwath,
Wilkes-Barre; and Bonnie, a fresh-
man at LCCC.
The Brennans returned from a

Mrs. McAdam is the former Mary

and Mrs. Frank Wallace, Shaver-
town. Mr. McAdam is the son of
Mrs. Eileen McAdam and the late
Atty. John L. McAdam, Long

Mrs. Daylida is a graduate
by the Station Complex, Wilkes-
Barre, and Joe’s Grotto, Harveys
Lake. Mr. Daylids is also a gradu-
ate of Dallas High School. He is
employed as the bar manager at
Joe’s Grotto, Harveys Lake.
