    Volunteers honored
Two, Back Mountain residents
were among volunteers honored by
Planned Parenthood Association of
Luzerne County at its recent annual
meeting. :
Mrs. Frank Townend and Marsha
Howes, both of Dallas, were
presented Planned Parenthood logo
pins in acknowledgement of their
each having donated over 300 hours
of work in the family planning
organization’s Wilkes-Barre Center.
Mrs. Townend, a member of
Planned Parenthood’s Board of
Directors, serves as a center recep-
tionist. Ms. Howes, also a Director
of Planned Parenthood, works as a
clinic assistant.
According to Volunteer Coordina-
tor Edythe Montz, volunteers con-
tributed nearly 3,000 hours of time
in 1983, contributing in in-kind dol-
lars approximately $12,400 to the
family planning organization. Vol-
unteers serve in such diverse capac-
ities as clinical assistant, reception-
ist and office aide. In addition,
registered nurses frequently volun-
teer as lab technicians, childbirth
educators and physician assistants.
Other volunteers honored include
Judith Seroska, Julie Burger Pier-
son, Mrs. S. Keene Mitchell, Mrs.
Keen Cornell, Mrs. Gary Smith,
Mrs. Carlton Stauffer, Meralea
Petruzzi, Eileen Sperrazza, Bonnie
Lenahan and Judith Fried.

Contestants from local cities and.
towns are being sought to compete,
in the Official State Preliminary of:
the National ‘All-American Teen,
Girl’ Pageant to be held in the!
Grand Ballroom of the Marriott
Hotel in Philadelphia Pennsylvania
on October 28, 1984.
Contestants will enter Communi-
cations and Evening Gown Competi-
tions and the semi-finalists will go
on to compete in a Personal Inter-
view Competition.
The state finalist will receive a’
$1,000 Dollar Scholarship and the
opportunity to compete for a $25,000
Dollar Scholarship along with other;
awards at the National Finals in «
New York City.
