hig % Ry Social Fun Fair Slated At Area Church On Saturday, July 28, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be loads of fun and games at the Shavertown United Methodist Church where a ‘Fun ~ Fair" will be held, with something for all ages. For the children, there will be a free petting zoo, a visit from a Care Bear, and face painting, along with games and other novelties. A flea market will be held in the church social room with bargains in ~ furniture, small appliances, like-new clothing, a white elephant table, - and baked goods and refreshments. King’s College Names For Area Children Children in the Back Mountain Area who enjoy drawing and painting as a hobby are invited to submit their art work for competition in the Summer's End Art Contest for children. Students who have completed kindergarten through sixth grade in June and who live in the Dallas, Lehman, Tunkhannock or Northwest School Districts or who study with artists who teach or work in those districts are eligible for the competition. All work must be submitted to Sue Hand's Imagery, 35 Main Street, Dallas, during regular studio hours from Aug. 20 through Aug. 27. All entries must be matted, mounted, or framed and must have the contestant’s name, grade most recently completed, category and phone number on the back. Each student may enter a maximum of five entries. The five categories are: pencil and charcoal; colored pencil and crayon; watercolor; acrylic and poster paint; ink and scratchboard. First, second and third place ribbons will be awarded in each category on each grade level by a panel of three judges familiar with children's art. All winning entries will be displayed at Sue Hand's Imagery, 35 Main St., Dallas from Aug. 29 through Sept. 5, from 9-5 daily except Sunday and Labor Day. The contest is sponsored by Joe and Sue Hand as part of a community arts awareness program. > Music Jamboree Termed Success The Northeastern Pennsylvania Country-Western and Bluegrass Music Association held an outdoor jamboree on Sunday, July 22 from 1 to 8 p.m. at Konefal's Grove on the Chase Road. The Back Mountain String Band, Country Kings, Honky Tonk Heart Band and the Country Classics all performed. Highlighting the day's entertain- ment at this charity fund-'raiser was the crisp, clean and fun-filled sound of the Honky Tonk Band. The talents that comprise this spirited group are those of Dave on vocals, lead and rhythm guitar and fiddle. Pat playing the moving, feeling bass notes and singing vocals. The creative and inspirational Kenny on lead and rhythm guitar and vocals. The rehearsed and often ad-libbed precision antics of Jamie, the per- cussionist of the group. In addition, the band offered the genuine coun- try artistry of female vocalist, Sharon. All members of the Northeast Country-Western and Bluegrass Music Association and all partici- pating artists saw all those in attendance enjoy a day of listening and dancing pleasure ‘‘in the coun- try’: during the commencement exercises held recently. During her last semester at . Wilkes, Ms. Watchulonis received a grade point average of 4.0. Ms. Watchulonis is also a 1982 graduate of College Misericordia - with a Bachelor of Science - degree in Business Administra- - tion and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. James Lacken- mier, C.S.C., president of the Col- lege. Burd’s appointment was effective June 29. In his new post, he will assume responsibilities in the areas of publicity, advertising and mar- keting King's College and its pro- grams. The Public Relations Office will serve to coordinate the efforts of the Admissions Office, Center for Part-Time Studies, and the aca- demic and social programs at King's. Burd will also supervise the College's News Bureau Service, which will remain under the direc- tion of nine-year King's veteran Jessie Robertine-Hardy.
