tomorrow, July 5, and will continue through July 8. :
The auction, which will be held on the auction grounds behind the
library building on Main Street in Dallas, will be open during the
following hours:
Thursday, July 5, and Friday, July 6, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.;
Saturday, July from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to closing; and
Sunday, July 8, from 1 p.m. to closing. :
The "auction committee hopes to make this year’s event the most
successful yet since the library is currently in the process of moving
into its new headquarters — the old Dallas Borough School Building.
More funds than ever are needed to make this move and to allow the
opportunity to continue serving the people of the Back Mountain area
in the most efficient manner possible.
The Library Auction, a fun event every year, will feature children’s
activities, refreshments, a book booth, new and used items and, of
course, the auction itself. But, most of all, it provides the people of the
Back Mountain area the opportunity to come together for a worthwhile
purpose — our library.

Increased safety precautions will
be used on the Pennsylvania Turn-
pike during the extended Fourth of
July holiday period.
“State Police and toll collection
personnel are prepared for the
increase in traffic,”” says Vice
Chairman Peter J. Camiel. ‘They
will be particularly on the lookout
for drivers who are fatigued or
under the influence, and tailgaters.
‘State Police patrols will be
increased for safety, traffic control
and enforcement of the 55-mile-per-
hour speed limit. Radar and task
force units will be used to full
capacity, as well as the utilization
of Turnpike Commission safety
patrol vehicles.
“Meanwhile, a full complement of
service area and emergency service
units will be on hand throughout the

holiday period to assist motorists
with disabled vehicles or other prob-
lems.”
For the holiday, the Turnkpike is
continuing a policy of banning over-
size and overweight vehicles. The
Turnpike ban begins at sundown,
Friday, June 29 and runs until
sunrise, Monday, July 9. It applies
to all vehicles exceeding any of the
following dimensions or weight: 81
feet in width, 73 feet in length, 13%
feet in height and 100,000 pounds in
gross weight.
“This is one of our Country’s
greatest holidays.” says Camiel,
“and we will make every effort to
keep Turnpike travel safe and con-
venient.
“Our monitoring of emergency
citizen band radio (Channel 9)
transmissions by State Police Troop
“7” will be a useful asset in the
holiday safety effort.
“It has been in use for nearly four
years now,”’ notes Camiel, “and we
have found it a valuable aid in
picking up information on accidents,
vehicle breakdowns, and traffic vio-
lations.”
