It takes many diversified and talented
volunteers to make the Back Mountain
to be. Volunteers like Gert Moss, 84, of
Trucksville.
Mrs. Moss has been an active sup-
porter of the library for decades. She is
presently serving as this year’s chairper-
son for the annual “Ham-n-Yeggs” club
drive. In fact, not only is Mrs. Moss the
chairperson for the club this year, but
has been for the past 10 years. She
explained how she became involved.
“My husband came up with the idea for
this fund drive back in 1966," she said.
“One other woman, Mrs. Higgins, helped
him address the letters, while I took care
of the books. After he and Mrs. Higgins
oS
passed away, I had to do it by myself.”
Mrs. Moss’ job entails quite a bit of
book work, writing and, above all, lick-
ing! Fortunately, she doesn’t have to
write each letter individually.
“After my husband passed away, the
bilities for writing the letter and running
it on a copy machine,” she said. ‘But, I
still have fo find all the addresses,
address the envelopes and lick all those
stamps!’
With no one to help Mrs. Moss, it takes
her an entire weekend to make out all the
letters.
“I have sent out 586 letters this year,”
exclaimed Mrs. Moss. “So far, within a
week and a half, the drive has raised
$1,856. Last year we raised around
$3,000.”

Mrs. Moss jokingly explained just how
someone can become a proud member of
the Ham-n-Yegg Club.
“All they have to do,” she said, “is
send me a check when they get their
letter! When we first began, we were
asking for a $10 donation. Now with
higher prices, we are asking for a $25
donation. However, if they can’t afford
that, we will accept what they can give.”
“We're very lucky to have a library
nearby,” added Mrs. Moss. “If it needs
our help, we should be willing to lend a
hand.”
That explains why Mrs. Moss feels so
strongly about supporting the library, but
why the Ham-n-Yegg Club?
“I feel it’s a job I can do well,” she
said. “I can’t get out very well, but this
is something I can do while at home.”
It’s nice to see that people like Mrs.
Moss are still willing to give what they
can to such a worthy cause as our
library.
