Coach Jack Wolensky’s Dallas
Mountaineers put together 17 hits
\WFriday to roll over the Lake-
record in 7-6 in league play.
The Mountaineers broke open the
game in the third inning when they
scored three runs to break a 2-2 tie.
Art Coolbaugh singled and crossed
home plate on Matt Medura’s single
when the Knights erred on the
fielding. Medura went to third and
scored on Tim Grove’s first of two
doubles in the game. Grove came
home on Catcher Darren Breining’s
double. ”
The Mountaineers scored four
more runs in the fourth inning on
and Breining. Dave Thomas scored
on Coolbaugh’s triple in the fifth
and Dave Janosik drove in two runs
in the bottom of the sixth.
Breining had a perfect day at the
plate going three for three including
a double and a triple. Coolbaugh
and Medura had three-for-four at
the plate, -one of Coolbaugh’s a
triple. Grove had two-for-four, two
of them doubles and drove in two
runs. Coolbaugh and Breining also
had two RBI's. Rightfielder Moye

Bearde was credited with the loss.
The win ran the Mountaineers’
record to 7-7 and the Knights are at
4-11.
LOSE TO WVW
, Valley West trounced the Moun-
taineers, 13-4, on Thursday, paced
by Brian Bobeck who knocked out
two triples and drove in four runs
for the Spartans. Bobeck hit a triple
in the third to aid in the Spartans
four runs that broke a 2-2 tie and in
the fifth inning he rapped out a
three run triple in the Spartans six
run frame. Len Barlik also hit two
triples for the Spartans.
Medura had two for three at the
plate driving in two runs. for the
Mountaineers. Designated hitter
Jubis had a hit and accounted for
two of the Mountainers runs while
Coolbaugh scored the other two.
Jim Griffin earned the win for the
Spartans allowing only six hits
while striking out 11 and walking
five. Rich Gdovin picked up the loss
for Dallas -with Mark Konopki
relieving in the fifth. Konopki
fanned two and walked two, Gdovin
fanned two and walked one.
Crestwood and Dallas went eight
innings on Wednesday with the
score tied at 3-3 at the Comets field.
CRESTWOOD WINS
In the bottom of the eighth, the
Comets’ Steve Caladie walked then
Joe Wasco walked after Caladie
stole second. S. Lenio hit a single to
right field to drive Caladie home but
Caladie was out at home plate. With
runners on second and third Steve
Wasco hit a long single to win the
game for the Comets.
Brian Moye tied the score on a
single in the seventh inning for the
Mountaineers.
Rich Gdovin was credited with the
loss for the Mountaineers when he
relieved starting hurler John Dent
in the seventh inning. Paul Feisel
took the win for the Comets.
. “Our girls knew they had to
+ defeat Crestwood to get in the play-
offs,”’ said their Dallas High School
- Coach Jay Pope, following his soft-
. ball team’s 11-9 win over the Lady
Comets last week.
“Going into the game the girls
kniew it was ‘do or die’ for them. A
win meant a spot in the playoffs, a
loss to Crestwood meant it was all
over. We took advantage of several
Crestwood errors and those, coupled
\ with Lori Handley’s hitting and
Sandi Shone’s pitching in the final
innings, helped pull us through. I'm
a lot of credit.”
Dallas girls were trailing, 8-4,
going into the bottom half of the
fifth when they scored seven runs
on three hits and five Comet errors.
Lori Handley batted twice in the
inning rapping out two singles one
of them a two-run hit down the right
field line. Jill Radzinski hit two
doubles in the game and Julie
Adams added two, singles to the
Lady Mountaineers 10 hits off
Comet pitcher Tracy Sherksnas.
LEHMAN WINS
Friday afternoon, the Dallas girls
bowed 6-2 to Coach Flossie Finn's
Lake-Lehman girls who ran their
record to 15-0 for the season.
Pitcher Jill Solinski hurled a two-
hitter for the Lady Knights.
LOSE TO WVW
Dallas girls also lost to Valley
West last week with Spartan Erika
Oswald pitching a three hitter and
Debbie Pearn driving out a two-run
triple to lead the Spartans to a 4-0
shutout over the Lady Mountai-
neers.
BEAT WYOMING AREA
Prior to defeating Dallas 6-2 on
Friday afternoon, Lake-Lehman’s
Lady Knights ran their record to 14-
0 on Thursday by picking up a 6-1
win over Wyoming Area.
Cindy Slocum gave the Knights a
3-0 lead in the first inning when she
hit a home run with two on. Winning
pitcher Jill Solinski drove out two
doubles and Ronda Hudzik and Kim
Fey knocked out singles.
Fey hit a one run single in the
sixth inning scoring pinch runner
Suse Slocum.
Solinski gave up only three hits
while fanning eight and walking
only one.
TROUNCE HANOVER
The Knights trounced Hanover
Area 17-5 earlier in the week with
Jill Solinski hitting a grand slam
homerun in the second inning.
Hudzik had three-for-four at the
plate and drove in two runs. Pitcher
Beth Finn had three hits and one
RBI.

LEHMAN LOSES TO TIGERS
Before losing to Dallas on Friday,
Coach Rodger Bearde’s Black
Knights went down to a 17-4 defeat
to Tunkhannock Tigers on Thurs-
day.
The Tigers kept hitting Al
Michaels fast balls to collect 14 hits.
They scored four runs in the first
and four in the second then went
scoreless until the fifth inning when
they drove nine runs across the
plate.
The Knights scored a run in the
second and three in the fifth. In the
second inning with one out Michaels
went to first on a single and went to
second on a Tiger's error. Don
Spencer went in as a designated
hitter and singled to right putting
Michaels on third. Bill George’s
fielder’s choice sent home Michaels.
In the bottom of the fifth, Weidner
went to first on a single and to
second on a fielder’s choice play on
Bill Bearde. Bill Boyle struck out.
Chris Wargo doubled to drive in two
runs then T. Willie Cadwalader hit a

run scoring double to right field and
scored on Scott Crispell’s single.
DEFEAT HANOVER
The Knights edged Hanover, 4-2,
on Wednesday in a seven-hit contest
hurled by Bearde. Bearde also
squeezed a run across home plate to
lead the Knights in the upset.
The Knights were behind, 1-0,
until the third inning when Boyle
tied the score with an RBI single. In
the fourth inning, the Knights
scored on Don Spencer’s single who
advanced to third on a one-base hit
by Bill George. Weidner «drove in
Spencer with a single and Bearde’s
bunt scored George. They scored
their fourth run in the fifth inning.
Hanover scored its second and
final run in the sixth.
Joe Polanoski took the loss for
Hanover, going out for relief pitcher
Cusick in the fourth.
MALAK LEADS WAY
Lake-Lehman also picked up a
win in the Meyers game defeating
them 6-1 behind Malak’s four hit
pitching.

sion announced a new service for
anglers and boaters in the state.
They can now call a toll-free tele-
phone number for a tape recorded
message about fishing and boating
in the state. The new number is 1-
