Olympics set
The Eighth Annual Senior Citizens
Olympics will be held on May 4 and
5 -at College Misericordia, Dallas.
The program is - co-sponsored by
Misericordia and ‘the Luzerne-Wyo-
ming ‘Counties Bureau for the
Individuals 60 years ‘or older, in
A
nization in Luzerne or Wyoming
counties are invited to attend the
two-day event. Pre-registration is
necessary and forms can be
obtained from local centers or orga-
nizations until Monday, April 23.
On May 4, from 10 a.m. to 12
p.m., the bowling competition will
take place at Chacko’s West Lanes
in Luzerne and Chacko’s East Lanes
at 169 South Main Street, Wilkes-
Barre.
The ‘remaining events, which
influde bicycling, bocci ball, soft-
ball throw, basketball free throw,
horseshoes, a walking marathon
arid a dance contest, will be held
May 5 at College Misericordia, from
9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Thee will be separate competition
for men and women, except in the
team bowling and team bocci ball.
Npn-competitive games, music and
dancing are planned throughout the
day. A hot lunch, tour of the Miseri-
cdrdia campus and awards presen-
tations will be part of the day-long
aetivities. The $3.00 registration
ddénation will include all events and
lunch.

Lina Serpico of Trucksville is one
of 676 volunteers at Wilkes-Barre
General Hopsital who is being rec-
ognized during General Hospital's
Volunteer Week, April 22-28. Lina is
shown assisting the American Red
Cross at one of General’s monthly
blood drives, a new service pro-
vided by the volunteers. Lina is also
first vice-president of the Auxiliary
and chairman of the hospital’s Gift
Shop.
Last year, the 676 volunteers
donated a total of 45,750 hours by
helping out in 22 different areas of
the hospital, including sorting and
delivering hsopital mail, escorting
patients, assisting families in the
Surgical Waiting Room and hostess-
ing in the Hospitality Shop.

be trained
A Parent Training Project for
parents of children with special
needs in Luzerne and Wyoming
Counties is being planned.
The project is funded by a federal
grant and administered by the
Bureau of Special Education in Har-
risburg in cooperation with the Luz-
erne Intermediate Unit. Its purpose
is the training of parents of handi-
capped children by other parents in
partnership with special educators.
The local parent trainers and the
organizations they represent are:
Nancy Barrera, Association of
Retarded Citizens of Luzerne
County; Jim Keller, Operation
Overcome; Linda Abrams, A.G.
Bell Association for the Deaf; and
Judy Ventrella, Developmental Dis-
abilities Advocacy Network.
These parents or guardians of
handicapped youngsters attended
regional training sessions for three
days in the Philadelphia area.
The first project will be held
Thursday, April 26, from 7 to 9:30
p.m. at St. Jude’s School, Route 309,
Mountaintop. The second session
will be held on Wednesday, May 9,
from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Wasserott’s
Hospital Equipment Co., Route 309,
Luzerne.
All interested persons who know
or suspect their child has a handi-
cap and requires special educa-
tional services are urged to attend
the nearest workshop. Reservations
are not ‘necessary, but would help
planning.
Antique sale set
The 32nd annual Antique Show-
Sale sponsored by the women of the
Prince of Peace Episcopal Church,
Main Street, Dallas, will be held on
Tuesday and Wednesday, May 1 and
2, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the
Church Parish House.
Tickets may be purchased from
members of the churchwomen or at
the door. Free parking is provided.
A Madame Alexander Doll with
walnut bed, donated by Mrs. David
Hall, will be awarded as door prize.
A cordial invitation is extended to
the public to attend this spring
event in the Back Mountain. Janice
Taylor is president of the church-
women and the Rev. John S. Prater
