Fight set for
Scranton CYC
Former light heavyweight Cham-
pion Billy Conn has accepted an
invitation to attend the annual Feld-
man Foundation benefit fight card
on Wednesday, April 11, at the CYC
in Scranton.
The card, which gets underway at
7 p.m., will feature the return of
popular Brooklyn welterweight
Johnny Turner. In his last appear-
ance in Scranton, Turner earned a
10-round decision over Roberto
Colon. Turner will appear in an
eight-round bout against YaYa Ali
of New York.
The night’s action will open at 7
p.m. with seven amateur bouts.
Tickets may be purchased at
Howard Johnson’s Motor Lodge,
Pittston; Mark-Data, Kennedy Bou-
levard, Pittston; Tom Taylor's
Sporting Goods, Scranton; and Car-
bondale News, Carbondale.
Soccer Day Camp set
The First Colonel Soccer Day
Camp will be conducted August 13-
17 at the Wilkes College Ralston
Field Complex in Edwardsville.
The camp is open to boys and
girls ages 8 to 14. A morning session
from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon will be for
youth players ages 8-10 followed by
an afternoon session, 1 p.m. to 4:30
p.m., for boys and girls ages 11-14.
The camp is directed by Wilkes
College soccer coach Phil Wingert
and University of Scranton coach
Steve Klingman.

The past two Mondays in the George Shupp League
Dallas Nursery shut out Harris Associates and divided
evenly with Endless Mountains. The mountain men
blanked Katyl TV last week while the previous week
the TV men dropped all to Farris Associates. Gino’s
Shoe Store split 2-2 with Fino’s Pharmacy but copped
three from Roberts Oil. Fino’s men picked up three
from Disque Funeral Home who also lost three to
Roberts.
High scorers for the two weeks were R. Stair 538; L.
Coolbaugh 532, 536; G. Harris 533, 248 (590); D. Purvin
531; A. Wendel 521, 237 (635); S. Bonomo 520; K.
Orkwis 224 (578); K. Youngblood 536; T. Doughton 557,
233 (555); C. Kazokas 224 (548), 525; Daubert 520; B.
Varner 218 (560); and B. Shoemaker 528.
In the Ladies Country p eague G.W. Harris took
three from Daring’s Market and the previous week
earned three from Fashion Vending. Daring’s copped
Gordon Insurance. Fashion Vending divided with the
Castlettes who also divided with Gordon Insurance.
Hitting high games for the ladies were M. Hirner
197; R. Radzinski 175 (504); C. Smith 200 (489); C. Mill
190 (495); P. Gordon 180, 186 (508); F. Allabaugh 173;
A. Hospodar 190 (483), 181-179 (519); E. Fehrer 183
(472), 172; and L. Cyphers 172-186 (507).
E. Roth’s 525 paced East Dallas to taking all from
Maple Grove in the Back Mt. Church League. C.
Kazokas hit the pins for 524 to aid Shavertown B in
copping four from Shavertown A. B. Cyphers rolled
552 and D. Shupp scattered pins for 223 (534) to lead
Orange B to three points from Carverton A. Carverton
B blanked Dallas A and Trucksville C picked up three
from Orange A. Trucksville B and the Lutherans split
2-2 with S. Hoover knocking down pins for 211 (541) for
the Trucksville men. ’
The snowstorm on March 29 kept all leagues away
from the lanes but in Friday night’s Bonomo’s Major
League Charlie’s All Stars shut out Back Mountain
Sporting Goods headed by C. Wiliams 224 (542) and F.
Cornell’s 564. S. Wickard hit 519 for the losing team. A.
Wendell slammed thepins for 212-224 (605) to help G.H.
Harris take three from the Beach Combers. C.
Kazokas rolled 535 and H. Bennett hit 527. Hambos
dropped three to Brown's Oil despite S. Bonomo’s 584
and J. Curtis’ 515. J. Roan led Brown’s with 580 and d.
Thomas scattered pins for 552. Sweet Valley Outfitters
copped three from the Bermudas sparked by Glen
Bonomo.
The opening games of the 1984
Wyoming Valley Baseball and Soft-
ball Conference scheduled were
postponed Friday due to inclement
weather.
The season was reschedued to
begin Monday, forcing Friday’s
games to be played at a later date.
All postponed games must be
played prior to May 2.
Thebaseball schedule for Monday
had Dallas hosting Pittston Area
and Lake-Lehman traveling to
Crestwood. In girls’ softball, Dallas
was at Pittston Area while Lake-
Lehman played host to Crestwood.
On Thursday, April 12, Dallas
boys’ baseball team will travel to
GAR while the Lady Mountaineers
softball team will be at home
against the GAR girls. Also on that
day, the Lake-Lehman hardballers
will travel to Hazleton while the
Lehman girls will host the Hazleton
softball team.
On Monday, April 16, the Bishop
Hoban boys’ baseball team will be
at Dallas while the Dallas girls’
softball team will play at Bishop
Hoban. On that same day, Lake-
Lehman baseball players will host
West Side Tech while the Lady
Knights softballers will travel to
meet the Lady Titans at West Side
Tech.
Teener tryouts
are scheduled
Back Mountain Baseball has
announced its schedule for Teener
League tryouts. All 13 year olds and
any new candidate this year must
attend at least one of two tryouts.
Dates will be Saturday, April 14 at
3 p.m. (rain date April 15), and
Monday, April 16 at 6 p.m. (rain
date April 17). Dallas Junior High
field will be used.
Women’s League
is seeking teams

The Back Mountain Women’s Soft-
ball League has openings for Class
C or D teams.
A registration and league meeting
will be held Wednesday, April 11, at
7 p.m. at the -American Legion,
Dallas. All new teams and existing
teams are urged to attend the meet-
ing. Anyone unable to attend the
meeting is asked to call 298-2400.
Volleyball standings
The Jenks Women’s Volleyball
league standings, as of April 2, are
as follows:
