and created the gown for Michele who will model it in a
fashion show sponsored by the Dallas Area Federated
Women's Club on April 5 at Irem Temple Country Club.
Fashions worn by the models will be from ‘‘Melba’s Fashion
Nook."" Tickets for the event may be obtained from any club

reading of four poets
Four visiting poets will present
their readings at the Hayfield
Poetry Festival sponsored by the
Wilkes-Barre Campus of The Penn-
sylvania State University.
The day-long event will be held on
Saturday, April 14, from 9 a.m. to
Michael Riley of Lancaster, a
widely-published poet, is an assist-
ant professor of English at the
Berks Campus of Penn State. Gayle
Smith of Dickson City, a published
poet and scholar, has been writing
poetry for about 10 years.
3:30 p.m. in Hayfield House on the
Lehman campus. The public is
invited to attend.
John Balaban of State College is
an award-winning poet and transla-
tor of Vietnamese, Romaian, and
Bulgarian poetry. Olga Mendell of
Buffalo, New York, is a lecturer on
Hispanic culture and author or pub-
lished poems, some of which have
been collected in ‘‘Adios’’, a volume
scheduled to appear this year.
Reservations for the Hayfield
Poetry Festival must be made by
April 9. Registration fee is $5 and
lunch will be available for a nomi-
nal fee.

Church plans
Bazaar, Sale
The Maple Grove United Method-
ist Church is holding a Craft Bazaar
and Bake Sale on Saturday, April 7,
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Refreshfments will be served.
There will be all kinds of handmade
items on display. Many of the crafts
will feature the Spring and Easter
seasons.

St. Paul's
plans dinner
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Shav-
ertown, will hold its annual Roast
Beef Dinner, sponsored by the
Brotherhood of St. Paul’s, on Satur-
day, April 7, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The cost of the tickets is $4.75 for
adults and $2 for children under 12
years of age.
Takeouts are available and Pastor
Rothrock hopes everyone will attend
to make the meal a success.
VA wants more
vet participation
The Veterans Administration
wants to increase participation by
small businesses owned by Vietnam
Era veterans and disabled veterans
in VA competitive procurements.
VA Administrator Harry N. Wal-
ters has directed VA procurement
offices to actively seek out capable
small businesses owned and oper-
ated by these veterans fo increase
their awareness about VA competi-
tive contract opportunities.
“Vietnam Era veterans and disa-
bled veterans as part of our next
generation of entrepreneurs,
deserve our special consideration,”
Walters said.
In making the announcement Wal-
ters said, “I believe it is appropri-
ate for the VA to take the lead in
this initiative, and we hope our
successes will prompt other procur-
ing agencies to join us in this
effort.”
