It has been said that the voice of soprano
Kathleen Battle matches her personality.
If that’s true, then local music lovers will be
in for a truly charming evening next March
when the internationally-known soprano comes
to Scranton as part of the Community Concert
Association’s 1984-85 season.
Miss Battle will perform at the Masonic
Temple on Monday, March 25, 1985. Her
performance will end the CCA’s 1984-85 season
and will be preceded by performances by The
Canterbury Trio (Nov. 1), The Metropolitan
Opera Ballet (Nov. 28), and The Bucharest
Philharmonic (March 2, 1985).
The soprano, a native of Ohio, recently told
the New York Times, “I think my personality
and the sound of my voice go together, hand in
hand.” In the same interview, she said Ler
voice was “light and bright,”” qualities which,
apparently, have led to her specializing in roles
such as Zerlina in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni’ (a
role Mrs. Gardner saw her perform at the
Met), Rosina in Rossini’s ‘Il Bariere di Sivig-
lia,” and others. Jai
