TEAMS students
Students from 14 area high schools participated in the annual
Junior Engineering Technical Society TEAMS competition held
at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. TEAMS (Test of Engineering
Aptitude, Mathematics and Science) is a national competition,
covering pre-college subject areas in the basic sciences,
mathematics and English. High schools participated in the
event as academic teams with the winning team receiving a
trophy and individual winners in each subject area receiving a

Douglas Ide, a sophomore at
~Lake-Lehman High School, has been
selected to attend the Hugh O’Brian
Youth Foundation State Leadership
Conference in Lancaster from
March 29 to April 1.
~ Douglas will join a select group of
high school sophomores with dem-
onstrated leadership qualities
together with distinguished leaders
in business, science, education, gov-
ernment and the professions.
Douglas is a high honors student
in the National Honor Society. He is
a member of the award-winning
Lake-Lehman Band, the wrestling
team, the track team, He is sopho-
more class president. He also is a
member of the E.Y.C., Prince of
Peace Church, Dallas.
Douglas is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Douglas Ide, RD 2, Hunlock
Creek.

youth program
The Wilkes-Barre YMCA will be
offering a Saturday Fun Program
for Back Mountain youth. The pro-
gram will give boys and girls first
through sixth grades an opportunity
to participate in the YMCA’s youth
program on Saturdays 9 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. for six weeks with trans-
portation provided to and from the
Y
The activities inlcuded in the pro-
gram will be: swim instruction,
recreational swim, gym classes and
other special activities.
The program begins Saturday,
March 17 and ends Saturday, April
28. The bus schedule will be as
follows: :
Back Mountain youth: pickup 8
a.m. Grotto Pizza, drop-off 1:40
p.m.; pickup 8:10 a.m. Bonomo’s,
drop-off 1:30 p.m.; pickup 8:20 a.m.
Dallas Acme, drop-off 1:20 p.m.;
pickup 8:30 a.m. Shavertown Acme,
drop-off 1:10 p.m.

The Trucksville Nursery School is
pleased to announce its annual Reg-
istration Day to be held Friday,
March 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The theme this year is “Green
means; Go and Grow.” All parents
interested in seing what the school
is all about and meeting the staff,
are invited to attend.
The Trucksville Nursery School
has been serving the community for
15 years. It offers a program for
preschoolers in which each child is
encouraged toward gaining inde-
pendence and self-confidence:
Throughout the year, teacher
strive to make the children aware of
the world around them by present-
ing such themes as hibrnation,
migration, the five senses, and good

The school is located at the
Trucksville United Methodist
Church Educational Building which
provides large-size classrooms with
plenty/ of space indoors and out.
Children are enrolled in the pro-
gram of their choice, depending on
availability. Classes offered are
ce in the morning or afternoon,

Dr. Richard A. Shipe, Superin-
tendent of the Dallas School Dis-
trict, announces Kindergarten Reg-
istration for the 1984-85 school year
‘will be held on March 19, 20, 21 and
22 in the Dallas Administrative
Office Building. Hours will be from
9 am. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.
Monday through Thursday.
Registration will be as follows:
Children with last names begin-
ning with A,B,C,D, and E will regis-
ter on Monday, March 19.
Children with last names begin-
ning with F,G,H,I,J, andK will
register on Tuesday, March 20.
Children with last names begin-

register on Wednesday, March 21.

will register on Thursday, March 22.
In addition to the registration,
vision and speech screenings will be
