In Class AAA Dallas Post/Ed Campbell Mike Borton and Craig Rome, both members of the 1983-84 Dallas High School wrestling team, wres- tled their way to individual District | 2 titles Saturday evening during the District 2 Class AAA Wrestling Championships held at Wilkes Col- dege. Borton, who finished the season at 26-3, picked up a District medal in the 126-pound weight class. Rome, who won a District 2 medal in the 145-pound weight class last year, garnered the 154-pound weight class this year. There's a big adjustment for the incoming freshmen. — The Jets trading Richard Todd was ludicrous. That organi- zation has done some stupid things within the last 14 months, starting with the firing of Walt Michaels. — With Lake-Lehman in the District AA it’s the other teams against the Black Knights. Sorta looks like a dual meet with Coach Ed Ladamus’ charges taking on the rest of the field. — Had an opportunity to exchange some football talk with Millersville Coach Gene Carpen- ter over the weekend of the Eastern Wrestling League Cham- pionships. He’s a very sharp individual and sound coach. He’s also doing a splendid job as Millersville’s athletic director. I hope he comes into the area after some of local talent. — Did you happen to catch my Tennessee Vols downing Ken- tucky last week in roundball. Vols’ Coach Don DeVoe has a 7-4 record against Joe B. Hall which is one of the best against usually ‘the best team money can buy.’ I’ve said for sometime, DeVoe is one of the best at getting an ordinary team to perform above its given ability. The eight District winners ties a record set twice by Kingston High School - the first in 1936 and the second in 1962. Lehman wrestlers Jeff Austin (98); Rusty Coolbaugh (112); and Wayne Rosencrans (138) were all returning champs from the 1983 District finals. Alan MacDonald of Lake-Lehman upset Tim Pane of Bishop O’Hara with a pin at the 5:22 mark in the 112-pound weight class. Lehman’s Norm Clancy picked up the fourth team District title in the 132-pound weight class with a 7-0 victory over GAR’s Don Maharty. Chris Wargo, a runner-up in the 1983 finals, got his District crown at 145 with a 14-9 decision over Dave Mraz of O’Hara.
