TIME Magazine has named George J. Alles, Jr. of Harveys Lake, president of Geo. J. Alles, Inc., an AMC, Jeep, Renault, Peu- geot dealership in Kingston, as a recipient of the 1984 TIME Maga- zine Quality Dealer Award (TMQDA). The selection of Alles was announced by Michael M. Carey, director of the TMQDA Program for TIME at the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Con- vention held recently in Dallas, Texas. Alles and the other recipi- ents were honored at the opening business meeting of the NADA Con- vention which this year was attended by over 5,000 people involved in the automotive industry. Alles, whose dealership is located at 70-76 W. Bennett Street in Kings- ton, is one of only 65 dealers in the entire nation nominated for the TIME honor. The TMQDA Program is spon- sored by TIME in cooperation with the NADA. Each year it honors outstanding new car dealers in America for “exceptional perform- ance in their dealerships combined with distinguished community serv- ice.” The recipients are chosen by a GEORGE J. ALLES, JR. of Michigan Graduate School of Business Administration. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Alles served with the United States Navy during World War II. He began his automotive career in 1946 as a mechanic for his family’s company, The George J. Alles Garage. He later became a partner and was named president in 1960. The Jeep franchise was acquired in 1957, Peugeot in 1978 and AMC, Renault in 1981. An active member of the automo- tive industry, Alles was nominated for the TIME Award by the Penn- sylvania Automotive Association of which he is a director and past president. In addition, he is an executive board member and vice president of the Valley AAA Motor Club, past president of the Wyoming Valley New Car Dealers Assocation, a member of NADA and has served as chairman of the service commit- tee on the AMC-Jeep National Dealer Advisory Board. Alles has led his dealership to many honors inlcuding the 1983 Peu- geot Sales Guild Award and several AMC Sales and Parts Awards. Involved in community affairs, Alles is a director of the United Penn Bank Regional Board, Har- veys Lake Protective Association, and a past president of the Harveys Lake Lions Club and the Daniel C. Roberts Fire Company. His mem- berships include the Westmoreland Club and the Fox Hill Country Club. In political and educational affairs, he is chairman of the Gen- eral Municipal Authority of Harveys Lake Boro and organized the Auto Mechanic Training Course at Luz- panel of judges from the University erne County Community College.
