The Dallas boys’ basketball team
was down by a mere four points
entering the fourth quarter, but
period to win a 60-47 victory and the
Wyoming Valley Conference Divi-
sion 2 championship. The game was
played Saturday night at the Wilkes
College gymnasium. .
The Grenadiers broke open the
contest with ‘eight unanswered
points in the final quarter and
outscored the Back Mountain boys,
20-11, in that period.
Dave Thomas led the Mountai-
neers in the offensive department
with 19 points while teammates Ed
Gorey and Tim Grove hit for 13 and
12 markers respectively. Grove was
filling in for guard Mark Farrell,
who suffered a concussion last week
against Crestwood. Farrell had been
a starter for Dallas in its first 27
games this season.
Dallas, which is classified as a
AAA school in District competition,
begins its quest for d district title
tomorrow, March 1, when it faces
North Pocono at King’s College.

Cheryl Gavigan led the way with
33 points as the Dallas girls’ basket-
ball team ran to a 64-50 victory over
West Side Tech Thursday.
Gavigan, along with teammate
Leslie Billman, who finished the
game with 14 points, were responsi-
ble for all of the Lady Mountai-
neers’ 16 first-quarter points. The
Dallas girls enjoyed a 28-22 halftime
advantage before opening the
margin to 49-36 at the end of three
periods.
Sherri Ciccarelli chipped in 12
points for the Back Mountain girls
who ran their second-half slate to 4-
4.

Dallas took an 18-12 lead after the
opening period and commanded a
35-23 halftime margin before taking
