Manusky makes difference
Greg Manusky attempted just one shot in Saturday's
playoff game between Dallas and GAR for the
Wyoming Valley Conference Division II first-half
basketball championship, but it was that one shot that
told the story. =.= , :
, The Mountaineer senior was fouled on his only
attempt at the basket and sank the first of two tries
from the charity stripe to give the Dallas cagers of
coach Clarence 0zgo a 34-33 victory and the first-half
crown.
Dallas was unable to score during most of the fourth
quarter until Dave Thomas hit a layup with just 51
‘neers to within one. GAR’s Greg Skrepnak then hit one
of two foul shots, tying the score at the 20 second mark
to set up Manusky’s game-winning foul shot.
Neither team was able to score until nearly two
minutes had gone by in the opening quarter. Ed Gorey
finally found the mark for Dallas with a baseline drive
and two short jumpers. GAR battled back with a man-
to-man press and knotted the score at 10 after one
period.
The Mountaineers, who went scoreless until the 3:30
mark in the second period, ran to a 20-14 halftime
advantage behind four points by Thomas. The Moun-
taineer’s leading scorer canned a pair of foul shots
and a jumper to give the locals the six-point halfway
margin.

Dallas picked up an 86-45 victory over West Side
Tech Thursday evening, throwing the Division II race
of the Wyoming Valley Conference into a two-way tie. .

Thomas exploded again in the third quarter as he
was responsible for 10 of Dallas’ 11 points with outside
jump shots. Ed Gorey fed Thomas with some impres-
sive assists before the Grenadier defense clamped
down in the final period. A
The Mountaineers earned the first-half title with an
8-1 recortd, their only loss coming at the hands of
Hanover Area.

Dave Thomas led the Mountaineers to victory once
again as he poured in 35 points, lifting the Back
Mountain boys to a 74-53 victory over Crestwood last
Tuesday.
Dallas upped its record te 6-1 via their win and
moved into a first-place tie with GAR in Division II of
the Wyoming Valley Conference.
Thomas scored 22 of his game-high 35 points in the
second half as the Mountaineers ran to a 52-36 lead
after three quarters.
Ed Gorey, who finished the evening with eight
points, scored all of them in the first period, enabling
the locals to grab a 19-10 first-quarter led.

wrestling team upped its record to
5-1 with a commanding 49-6 victory
over Hanover Area Saturday night.
The Black Knights got a major
decision from Bill Guerin in the 167-
pound class and picked up forfeits
in the 112-pound class and the 185-
pound class to aid their cause.
