Hanover Area upset undefeated
Dallas Mountaineers, 51-42, on the
Hawkeyes’ floor last Friday night
and threw Division 2 into a four-way
tie between Crestwood, GAR, Hano-
ver and Dallas, all with 5-1 records.
Dallas outscored Hanover 6-4 in
the first period but Hanover came
12-9 in the second quarter to take a
one-point lead into the lockerroom
at halftime.
Both teams played to a 12-12 tie in
the third quarter and with the
Hawkeyes in front 28-27 going into
the final period, Hanover exploded
to take a 10-point advantage in the
last quarter.
Ed Gorey paced Dallas with 15
points but had a bad night at the
foul line hitting only five in 12 tries.
Dave Thomas added 10 points to the
scoring column.
Gorey and Mark Farrell sat out
part of the third and final periods
their absence hurt the Mountai-
neers.
Dallas 46, Lehman 33
Earlier in the week, the Mountai-
neers downed Lake-Lehman 46-33
with Dave Thomas netting 21 points
for the lone Mountaineer in the
double figures. Gorey hit only eight
points, Farrell put in seven and
Greg Manusky hit for six. "
Neither team played strong
offense with the Knights playing a
slow, waiting game against the
Mountaineers.

In a close and exciting contest,
the Dallas-Meyers meet Saturday
night went down to the heavyweight
bout where Mohawk Elliott Cox’
1:14 pin over Tim Finnegan gave
Meyers a 25-23 win.
Meyers went on the hoard first
when 98-lb. Tim Casey won by
forfeit. 105-lb. Bill Mathers gave
Dallas four points on a 9-1 major
decision over Steve Tredinnick and
112-1b. John Burke clamped Kevin
Lecce in 2:51 to give Dallas 10,
Meyers 119-1b. Pat O’Connell tied
it up when he shut out Jeff Hocken-
bury 8-0.
126-1Ib. Mike Borton moved the
Leeds 7-1.
The next three bouts went to
Meyers with 132-1b. Joy Shearer
Taking Corey Lingas 4-1, 138-1b. Jeff
Hill defeating Jeff Hall 6-2 and 145--
Ib. Dan Kratz taking Joe Patts 9-3.
155-1b. Craig Rome added four to
Dallas’ team score by taking a
major 10-0 win from Dave Kuhl. 167-
Norton 6-5, and 185-1b. Joe Walsh
shut out Daryl Boich 6-0.
With Dallas leading 23-19 going
into the final bout Elliott Cox gave-
the Mohawks the win by clamping
heavyweight Tim Finnegan in 1:14
for six points.

Dallas 46, Lehman 33
Earlier in the week the Knights
dropped their game with the Dallas
Mountaineers 46-33 as they were
unable to penetrate the Dallas
offense. Paul Jones was the only
Knight to hit the double numbers
column coming up with 10 points.
The Lake-Lehman cage team
hosted Meyers yesterday and will
be home again on Jan. 31 when it
_ entertains Wyoming Seminary.
Lehman 80, Tech 42
game, Lake-Lehman Knights
crushed West Side Tech 80-42 last
Saturday. Four of the Knights hit
the double figures with Paul Jones
scoring 22 points in the game. Ray
Iwanowski netted 18, Marty Onzik
put in 12 and Bill Bearde netted 10.
Lehman 62, Seton 53
turned back Seton Catholic 62-53 on
the Back Mountain floor.
the first period ending with an 11-11
score. In the second period the
Knights came on stronger to out-
score the Eagles 19-13 and outdid
them 21-17 in the third period.
The Knights led 51-41 going into
the final quarter where the Eagles
53 score.
Ray Iwanowski hit a game high
scoring for the Knights putting 12
- goals through the nets from the field
and hitting 11-for-14 from the foul
line for 35 points.
The win moved the Knights to 2-4
on Friday and Saturday’s win gave
them a 3-4 record.

sity wrestling team, is ranked 14th
in the nation by ‘National Mat

Lake-Lehman’s Lady Knights
traveled to Pittston Friday night
where they defeated Seton Catholic
54-42 to run their league record to 6-
0. :
The teams played to an 8-8 tie at
the end of the first period but the
Lady Knights outscored the Eagles
19-4 in the second period to take a
27-12 lead into the lockerroom at
halftime.
Three of the Lake-Lehman girls
made the double figures with Ronda
Hudzik- setting the pace with 15
points. She netted seven goals from
the playing field and went one-for-
two from the foul line. Jill Solinski
followed with 13 points putting in six
goals from the field and dumping in
one good one from the free stripe. S.
Dicton added 12, all of them from
the field. The girls failed to hit well
from the foul line going only two-
for-10 for the night.

Thursday when the Lady Knights
defeated the visiting West Side Tech
team 60-30. Kim Fey and J. Solinski
added 12 points ech, Fey putting
five goals in from the field and
dumping two-for-four from the char-
ity stripe. Solinski gained her points
with identical scoring.
Knights Coach Joe Martini emp-
tied his bench in the second half to
give all of his players an opportun-
ity to get in the game. The Knights

Dallas 79, Hanover 45
After losing their first league
game to Lake-Lehman last Tuesday
night, Dallas girls bounded back to
trounce Hanover 79-45. Four of the
Lady Mountaineers hit the double
figures column with Cheryl Gavigan
hitting 20 points, Kim rollman 13,
and Sheri Ciccarelli and Karen
Vloedman hitting 11 each.

In Tuesday night's game with
Dallas, both teams played fairly
even the first half with the Knights
leading 28-17 at the half but in the
third quarter the Lake-Lehman girls
used a strong running game and put
their defense together to outscore
the Lady Mountaineers 23-5.
The Knights grabbed some key
steals which gave them break-away
baskets and three of the players hit
in the double scoring to aid in the
Knights win.
It marked the Mountaineers first
loss in league play as they bowed
69-38 to Lake-Lehman.
Hudzik was high scorer with 19
‘points followed by Sandy Dicton
with 18. Kim Fey dumped in 14
while J. Solinski and P.
Solinski scored eight each.
