The Back Mountain Branch of Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. recently held the annual Christmas Tea
at Mercy Center, College Misericordia, Dallas, honoring the 90 retired nuns who reside at the
Center. Shown above are, from left, Mrs. Arthur Kirk, co-chairman of the affair; Mrs. Edward
Crake, president of the auxiliary; Mrs. James Connery, chairman; Mrs. James Clinton, volunteer,
and Mrs. Ben Banks, past president. The auxiliary meets weekly all year-round at the Center

Phlebotomists make house calls
At the request of a physician,
staff phlebotomists from Nesbitt
Memorial Hospital will make house
calls to homebound residents in

The home-drawn testing program
initiated by Virgil Serafine, director
of laboratory services at Nesbitt,
currently handles 70 house calls per
week within a 50-mile radius of the
hospital. Many of the patients utilize
the program on a weekly basis.
Laboratory personnel also handie
emergency house calls and can be
at a patient’s home within an hour.

The tape ‘‘Alzheimer’s Disease’
has recently been added to the Tel-
Med listing. The tape number is 724.
Alzheimer’s Disease is an unusual
disorder that affects the thinking
and reasoning ability of the brain. It
nursing home admissions.
The first symptoms are the inabil-
ness. As the disease progresses,
agitation, irritability, and restless-
ness become noticeable. The disor-
der can be of a great source of
frustration and emotional strain on
the family as well as the patient. :
While the caue of Alzheimer’s
Disease is not presently known, it is
not caused by hardening of the
arteries, nor is it a normal result of
getting older. j
