Albert Duran, College Misericor-
dia’s ‘Gifts for Learning’ general
campaign chairman, will call for
financial reports from ‘six commu-
nity vice chairmen at the first
campaign report meeting to be held
Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 12:15 p.m. at
the Sheraton-Crossgates in Wilkes-
- Barre.
The vice chairmen are helping to
raise $292,000 for student financial
aid programs. The six are Helen
0’Connor, Luzerne County Register
of Wills; George Lister, vice presi-
dent and general manager of the
Times Leader; Thoams Jacobs,
managing director of Boscov's;
Raymond McGarry, national
account manager of AT&T; Susan
Kluger, a director of the First
National Bank of Wyoming; and
Daniel Shall, inventory and pur-
chasing manager of Commonwealth
Telephone Company.
Benedicta Matchett, chairman of
the College’s alumni giving pro-
gram, will report on the progress to
date of the alumni direct-mail phase
of the campaign and will announce
plans for the alumni phonathon to
be held Feb. 6 through 14.
Two additional report meetings
will be held on February 8 and 22. A
final victory celebration is sched-
uled for Feb. 29.

Dr. Dan F. Kopen of Kingston is pleased
to announce the opening of his practice in
General and Vascular Surgery at The New
Bridge Center, 480 Pierce Street, Kings-
ton, Suite #318. Non-invasive vascular
diagnostic services will be available
through this office. Appointments may be
made by calling 283-2323. ;
Originally from Forty Fort, Dr. Kopen
was graduated from Forty Fort High School
in 1966 and holds a bachelor of science
degree from Wilkes College where he
received the Outstanding Graduate Award
in 1970. He also received the Distin-
guished Young Alumnus Award from
Wilkes in 1980.
Doctor Kopen earned his medical degree
from the Milton S. Hershey Medical School
of the Pennsylvania State University in
1974. He completed an internship in
surgery as well as a residency in general
surgery at the Barnes Hospital in St.
Louis, Missouri, where he served as chief
surgical resident in 1979-80. In addition,
he completed a fellowship at the Washing- “gf
ton University School of Medicine in
Gastrointestinal Surgery from 1976 to
1977.
Certified by the American Board of
Surgery in 1980, Dr. Kopen was pre-
viously assistant director of the Burn Unit
as well as co-director of the surgical
intensive care unit at the St. John's
Mercy Medical Center, St. Louis; clinical
assistant in surgery at the Washington
University School of Medicine; and staff
surgeon for the Geisinger Medical Group
in Wilkes-Barre.
A member of the Luzerne County and
Pennsylvania Medical Societies, the Ameri-
can Medical Association, and the American
Burn Association; Dr. Kopen is a member
of the medical staff at the NPW Medical
Center, and has applications pending for
privileges at the Wilkes-Barre General !
