making 12 of his 15 field goal tries.
Bill Bearde scored six point in the
final six points of the game cutting
the Hawkeyes lead to 56-54. Antall
missed on an inbounds pass and the
Knights had an opportunity to tie up
the score. Lady Luck went against
them when Marty Onzik was called
* for a technical foul when he sig-
i - -naled a Lake-Lehman time out with
| none remaining.
Connelly tried for the technical
. foul throws butmissed but with six
seconds on the clock he was fouled
by the Knights and made both shots
| to give Hanover the game. :
Lehman 69, Crestwood 56
The Knights dropped their game -
Saturday night to Crestwood, 69-56,
with Rich Loomis’ 22 points setting
; the pace for the Comets.
Lake-Lehman jumped out to a 14-
10 lead at the end of the first
‘quarter but cooled off in the second
period to lag 27-23 at halftime. They
were unale to overtake the Comets
- in the second half.
Tom Benz, Bill Blaum and Jeff
Smith hit the double figures column
for Crestwood with Benz hitting for
17, Blaum picking up 11 and Smith
adding 10.
i Bearde led the way for the
Knights with 14 points. Onzik fol-
lowed with 13, Jones hit 12 and Scott
Drugotch put 10 points through the

the third quarter, Dallas outscored
Seminary 23-10 and outdid the Blue
Knights 24-19 in the final period.

Earlier in the week, the Mountai- |}
neers used an aggressive defense to |
‘hold the G.A.R. Grenadiers to only
two points while Dallas ran their
win record to 3-0 with a 54-51 score.
. The Mountaineers win broke the
Grenadiers six-game win streak.
Dallas Coach Ozgo said for the
first three quarters the Grenadiers
took control of the game, or seemed
to, and every time his Mounts came
close they committed a turnover or
allowed G.A.R. to score.
a In the final quarter the Dallas
» cagers took over as Dave Thomas
hit for eight points. He hit a jumper
in the opening seconds of the final
period to cut the Grenadiers lead to
. 45-41, then Ed Gorey hit a three
, point play to cut the margin to 47-44.
After G.A.R’s Carl Rollins hit for
two points to make the score 49-44,
.- Mountaineer Thomas hit to make
the score 49-46. Gorey scored two
points off a steal by Thomas to
come within 49-48, then made a
jump shot to give Dallas a50-49 lead.
Thomas dumped in a foul shot then
Grenadier Bill Callahan tied the
‘Score at 51-all.
For the next 75 seconds the game
remained tied before Thomas hit a
15-ft. jump shot to give Dallas a 53-
51 lead. The Grenadiers missed |
three shots before Dave Thomas hit |
a foul shot with only 17 seconds left
on the clock.
Gorey led with 23 points for the
night followed by Thomas with 13.

. Lake-Lehman’s Lady Knights ran
their record to 3-0 in the Wyoming
Valley Conference as they soundly
whipped Hanover, 67-33.
The Lady Knights were in front
39-12 at halftime then went on to
outscore the Hanover girls 17-11 and
11-10 in the third and fourth quart-
ers.
Ronda Hudzik set the pace with 16
points and Jill Solinski followed with
15. Kim Fey added 11 and Pam
Solinski gave her team 10 points.

With the score tied at 24-24 going into the heavy-
weight bout, Nanticoke’s Bill Bartle clamped first
year wrestler Tim Finnegan in 2:33 to give the
Trojans an upset 30-24 win over the Dallas Mountai-
neers.
The Trojans started off with a win when their 98-1b.
Dave Krukowski took a 12-6 bout from Marty Kriner.
105-1b. Billy Mathers turned the score around when
he took a superior 18-2 decision from Neal Quoos.
The Trojans took the next three bouts on 112-1b. Bob
Ashford’s 15-6 win over John Burke, 119-lb. John
Dillon’s pin in 1:25 over Jeff Hockenbury and 126-1b
Jeff Holup’s major 15-4 decision over Mark Whitesell.
132-1b. Mike Borton gave Dallas three points on an §-
4 win over Tom Sadowski but 138-Ib. Tony Grobinski
took Jeff Hall 13-7. 145-lb. Mike Bodick gave the
Trojans another bout by taking Jim Patts 13-4.
155-b. Joe Patts added points for Dallas by defeat-
ing Mark Benscoter 10-1. 167-1b. Craig Rome flattened
Mike Piontkowski in 0:57 seconds and 185-1b. Joe
Walsh upended Chris Paluch in 3:18.
Hwt. Bill Bartle’s 2:33 pin over Tim Finnegan gave
the Trojans the 30-24 win to hand the Mountaineers
their second league loss.
Lehman 34, Dallas 25
Dallas Mountaineers trailed by only three points 28-
25 going into the final bout of the meet with Lake-
Lehman last Wednesday night but the Knights heavy-
weight Chris VanGorder had too much experience for
Lady Mounts
undefeated
The Lady Mounts of Dallas High
School edged Wyoming Seminary
Saturday afternoon, 48-47, to con-
tinue undefeated in Division II.
Dallas pulled in front to head
toward an easy win until the fourth
quarter when Seminary’s Kay Ann
Vanderburg and Willisa Roland
combined for 14 points in the final
period to come within one point of
trying for an upset of the Lady
Mountaineers.
With only seven seconds remain-
ing on the clock, it was Sheri
Ciccarelli who hit two key foul shots
to give Dallas the one point win.
The win gives the girls a 4-0 record
and keeps them in contention for the
first half. :
It was Cherry Gavigan who again
led in the scoring with 14 points
followed by Ciccarelli with 11.
Vanderburg hit 12 for the Semi-
nary team with Sara Yohe on her
heels with 11 points.
Dallas and Lake-Lehman meet
Tuesday night at Lehman with both
teams undefeated. The Lady Moun-
taineers play Hanover at home on
Friday. =
Dallas 57, GAR 36
Coach Kit Karuza’s Lady Moun-
taineers took their third win last
Wednesday with a 57-36 win over
G.A.R. on their home court.
Sheri Ciccarelli and Cheryl Gavi-
gan led the Dallas team with 17 and
15 points respectively to set the
pace for the Dallas shutout. Ciccar-
elli put in eight points in the third
period to pace the Mountaineers in
outscoring the Grenadiers 15-4.
The Lady Mounts were in front 25-
18 at the half. They outscored
G.A.R. 13-4 in the first period but
cooled off-in the second period when
G.A.R. scored 14 points to the
Dallas girls 12. The Mountaineers
lagged in the second period when
they converted only one of 10

Gavigan tossed in 15 points, net-
ting five shots from the field and
dumping in five from the free line.
Ciccarelli made 14 of her 17 points
from the action field and keyed in
three for five from the charity
stripe.
It was Gavigan, Kim Rollman and
Karen Vloedman who starred on the
rebounding for the Lady Mountai-
neers to move them to their 3-0
record.

Lake-Lehman Saturday night aided by 185-1b. Bob
Fisher’s superior decision and Hwt. Larry Bertuola’s
ability to stay away from a pin or superior decision by
Knight hwt. Chris Van Gorder. :
In a meet that could easily have gone either way,
Hazleton had more of Lady Luck on their side on a
given night.
Knight Dave Guzenski lost an 11-2 bout to 98-lb.
Steve Fisher but 105-1b. Jeff Austin took a major 11-0
shutout from Hazleton’s J. Seiwell. Knight Al
McDonald was clamped by 112:1b. Lou Colangelo in
3:49 and 119-Ib. Dwayne Miller gave up a superior 22-3
bout to Hazleton’s Gary Obert.
Lake-Lehman’s 126-1b. Rusty Coolbaugh shut out
Todd Greshner 2-0 and 132-1b. Norm Clancy flattened
Mark Uliano in 3:32. 138-1b. Wayne Rosencrans pinned
Brian Thomas in 1:35 and Chris Wargo gave the
Knights another pin when he overturned 145-1b. Tom
Sahaida in 2:00.
In a close touch-and-go bout at 155, Tony Forte was
on the short end of a 6-4 score in the third period when
he escaped for one, managed a takedown and a back
call on Knight Bill Guerin to win 9-6.
