lead the Lady Mountaineers to a
3 win over Seton Catholic.
The teams played even during the
first quarter that ended in a 14-14,
tie but Dallas went into the locker-
room at halftime with a 26-24 point
edge.
The Dallas girls came on strong
in the third period to outscore Seton
- 16-10 then slowed down the game in
the final period to hold on to their
lead. They were leading 42-34 going
into the final period and used much
of the clock in the final period to
take their six point win. ;
Sheri Ciccarelli poured in five
goals from the field for 10 points
and Kim Rollman added eight
points in the Lady Mountaineers
second consecutive league win.

The Lady Mohawks of Meyers
were out in front, 34-28, at halftime
in the opening game of the season
against Dallas last Tuesday, but
Lady Mount Cheryl Gavigan came
through with 10 of her 21 game-high
points late in the fourth quarter.
Teammate Kim Rollman netted 16
points to keep the locals in the
game.
Gavigan’s 10 points and four key
foul shot by Leslie Billman played a
major role in the Lady Mounts’
come-from-behind 58-54 win over the
Mohawks.
The Dallas girls were trailing by
remaining the game when Gavigan
and Billman set the scoring pace for
the team.
Meyers took an early first quarter
17-3 lead until Rollman scored eight
points in the quarter to put the team
back in the contest. Gavigan scored
enough of her 21 points to keep the
game within hitting distance and
Dallas outscored Meyer, 18-17, in
the second period. The Mohawks
took a 34-28 lead at halftime.
The teams played even in the
third period with Meyers outscoring
Dallas, 12-11, but the Lady Mountai-
neers’ 19-8 final period iced the
game for the local team.- Amy Aston
aided with eight points, three goals
from the field and two-for-three
from the foul line.
The Dallas girls were scheduled
to host the Lady Grenadiers of GAR
on Tuesday, Jan. 10 and will play
host to Wyoming Seminary on Sat-
urday, Jan. 14 in a 2 p.m. contest.
They will then travel to Lake-
Lehman on Tuesday, Jan. 17 to face
the Lady Knights there.

Coach Larry Schuler’s Dallas
grapplers trailed 18-3 after the first
five bouts in the Tunkhannock meet
Saturday night, but won the rest of
the bouts to walk away with a 39-18
win.
The Tigers opened with Mike
Gocha’s 5:16 pin over 95 lb. Marty
Kriner to take a 6-0 lead. Mountai-
neer Bill Mathers edged out a 4-3
decision over 105-Ib. Kevin Koma-
nowicz to make it 6-3.
The next three bouts went to
Tunkhannock with 112-Chris Olshan
taking John Burke 12-6, 119-1b. Rick
Marshall clamping Jeff Hockenbury
in 3:28 and 126-1b. Jim Hammersley
besting Dave Hislop 4-0.
Mount Mike Borton started the
ball rolling in the opposite direction
by flattening 132-1b. Don Nowels in
3:06. 138-1b. Jeff Hall took an 8-4
bout from Don Mead, 145-lb. Jim
Patts overturned Glen Packer in
Rick Gilroy in 2:32.
Craig Rome continued to win for
Dallas by pinning 167-1b. Chris
Shultz in 2:16 and 185-1b. Joe Walsh
took a 10-6 win from Mick Gilroy.
Hwt. Tim Finnegan gave the Moun-
taineers their final six points by
clamping Leon Fortner in 1:12.

Dallas matmen took the first two
bouts against GAR by forfeit to give
their team a 12-0 start. 98-1b. Marty
Kriner and 105-1b. Bill Mathers took
their bouts by forfeit.
112-Ib. John Burke gave GAR
three points: when he lost, 9-7, to
Grenadier Tom Regan. The Moun-
tain 119-lb. Jeff Hockenbury and
126-1b. Dave Hislop gave Dallas two
more forfeits to move the team in
132-1Ib. Mike Borton gave the
Mountaineers their first action win
by outwrestling Bill Blackwell, 8-2.
The Grenadiers took the next
three bouts to add 15 points to their
team score as 138-1b. Don Maharty
took a superior 15-2 win from Jeff
Hall, 145-1b. Mike Bonomo won by a
12-4 major decision over Jim Patts
and 155-1b. Dean Malta added six by
a forfeit.
Craig Rome moved the Mountai-
neers to a 33-18 lead by clamping
Joe Novak in 40 seconds and 185-1b.
Joe Walsh moved the score to 36-18
by besting Chris Weale, 5-2.
Heavyweight Tim Finnegan gave
Dallas its final six points on a
forfeit by the Grenadiers to give
Dallas their 42-18 league opener.
Dallas will be at home tonight
with Lake-Lehman and will travel
for a 1 p.m. match against the
Trojans.

Knights lose
The Lake-Lehman wrestling team
suffered a 40-12 defeat at the hands
of Easton Thursday night in a high
school exhibition match.
Both teams scored two pins with
Lehman’s coming from Al
McDonald who pinned Bob Maca-
luso at 112 pounds and Chris Van
Gorder pinned John Avia in the
heavyweight division.

Trailing 40-39 going into the final
period, the Lake-Lehman Knights
missed a last second shot while the
G.A.R. Grenadiers hit one with less
than one minute on the clock to give
the ‘Grenadiers a 48-47 squeaker
over the Black Knights in Wyoming
Valley Conference basketball action
Friday evening.
The Grenadiers outscored the
Knights, 12-7, in the first quarter
which gave them just enough
leeway to hold their lead 28-22 at
halftime. In the third quarter, the
Knights rallied to outscore G.A.R.,
12-7, to come within one point of the
lead. Both teams played an even 8-8
game in the final period.
Marty Onzik led the Knights in
scoring with 13 points, eight of them
from the action field and five-for-
eight from the foul line. S. Drugotch
netted six shots for 12 points and big
Ray Iwanowski added 11 making
four goals from the floor and dump-
ing in three shots from the charity
stripe.
The Knights have been hampered
by injuries with Tom Kukosky out
with knee ligament injuries, Paul
Jones on the injured list with a
sprained ankle and Bill Bearde suf-
fering lower back problems.
LEHMAN 65 SEMINARY 30
The Knights won a 65-30 victory
over Wyoming Seminary in their
league opener last Tuesday, spared
by Paul Jones’ 20 points. Sixteen of
Jones’ points came from the court
and four from the charity stripe.
Bill Bearde hit the double figure
column with 16 points and Ray
Iwanowski chipped in 11 markers.
Bearde netted seven goals from the
field and went two-for-six from the
foul line. Iwanowski collected eight
points from the field and dumped in
three-for-six from the free-throw
line. .
The Knights pulled in front, 13-6,
in the first quarter and ran the
score to 19-6 in the second quarter
before taking a 32-12 lead into the
lockerroom at the half.
Seminary rallied in the third
period, but cooled off in the final
period when they were outscored,
14-4.
Lake-Lehman was scheduled to
play at West Side Tech on Jan. 11.
The Knights will host Hanover
tomorrow (Jan. 12) and travel to
Crestwood on Saturday (Jan. 14).
They will be on the road again on
Tuesday, Jan. 17 when they travel
to meet their Back Mountain rivals,
the Mountaineers of Dallas High
School.

The Lady Knights of Lake-
Lehman won with ease over G.A.R.
led by Ronda Hudzik’s 18 points in
their 66-42 victory. :
Hudzik put in eight goals from the
floor and dumped in two shots from
the foul line while Kim Fey added
15 netting seven shots from the field
and putting in one-for-three from
the free stripe.
S. Dicton and P. Solinski each
collected 10 points, as Dicton put in
four two-pointers and making it two-
for-two from the charity stripe.
Solinski put in five shots from the
field for her total.
The win was Lake-Lehman’s
second consecutive league victory.

The Lady Knights took off with a
26-15 led in the first half of their
league opener with Wyoming Semi-
nary, then used a big 19-15 third
period to clinch a 54-44 victory.
Gail Austin scored 14 points, all of
them in the third quarter, to keep
the Lady Knights on the winning
track. She netted six goals from the

field and dumped in two-for-three
from the free throw line in the 19-
point period.
The Knights used a balanced scor-
ing attack in the first half with Kim
Fey, Rhonda Hudzik, S. Dicton,
Pam Solinski, Jill Solinski and S.
Lopasky doing their share to take
the Lady Knights to their 11 point
halftime led.
Hudzik hit the double figures
column with 10 points, all of them
netted from the playing court.
The Lady Knights hit the nets for
24 goals and went six-for-12 from
the foul line. Wyoming Seminary
girls were short on goals with only
17, but dumped in 10 for 16 from the
charity line.
The Lady Knights were scheduled
to be at home with West Side Tech
on Tuesday, Jan. 10. They will
travel to Hanover on Thursday, Jan.
12, and will return home on Satur-
day, Jan. 14 to host Crestwood. The
Lehman girls will then play host to
their Back Mountain rivals, the
Lady Mountaineers from Dallas, on
Tuesday, Jan. 17.
