Albert Duran, 1983 Annual Campaign Chairman; Joseph R., Fink; President of College | x
Misericordia; Benedicta North Matchett, Alumni Fund Chairman; Congressman Frank Harrison, :
principal speaker; and John McCole, member of Misericordia’s Board of Trustees.
Misericordia kicks off |
three-year campaign
use; develop curricula, fund
research, and augment current pro-
grams for faculty and staff training.
The fund raising campaign is
being conducted in phases. The
major gift phase is now underway.
The special gift phase, beginning
immediately, will ask a much
larger group of Misericordia sup-
porters’ for a pledge of financial
support over the next three years.
The campaign will conclude with a
community phase to include alumni,
~ foundations, corporations and
others.
According to Dr. Fink, A Gift of
Quality will not be just a. fund
raising venture.
“It is out intention to reaffirm the
mission and vitality of College Mis-
ericordia. We will talk of future
direction and community involve-
ment which means much more than
financial support,” Fink said.
“We hope that this campaign will
be just one step in the renewal of a
60 year partnership with the com-
munity,” remarked Fink.
Monsignor Andrew J. McGowan,
chairman of College Misericordia’s
Board of Trustees and master of
College Misericordia kicked off its
$1.5 million capital campaign
recently in the Grand Ballroom of
the Genetti Best Western Motor Inn
in Wilkes-Barre.
Dr. Joseph R. Fink, president of
College Misericordia, announced
that pre-campaign major gift
pledges received to date total $571,-
000, or approximately 40 percent of
the three year goal. Two pledges of
$100,000 each helped achieve this
milestone.
“A Gift of Quality - 60 Years of
Commitment,” the theme of Miseri-
cordia’s capital campaign, repre-
sents the school’s celebration of the -
60th anniversary of its founding by
the Religious Sisters of Mercy in
1924. ;
The College plans to use the
capital funds raised to: develop
endowments for scholarships and
financial aid to students; repair and
renovate older buildings and class-
rooms, and improve their energy
efficiency; purchase equipment for .
instruction in professional studies,
and implement long-range objec-
tives for computer hardware and its
ceremonies for the campaign kick-
off, noted that the $571,000 raised so
early in the campaign symbolizes
the ‘‘tremendous display of confi-
dence in the work that College
Misericordia has been doing, and
the faith that this community has in
the continuing ability of the College
to serve the population of the
region, and serve it well.” 4
Congressman Frank Harrison was
principal speaker at the event. Har-
rison once served as a faculty
member at College Misericordia,
and has for many years been a firm
supporter of the College and its
programs.
Harold Rosenn, vice chairman of
the Board of Trustees, introduced
the capital campaign’s Special Task
Force. Members of the task force
are Sr. Miriam Ruth Brennan, Elmo
Clemente, Susanne Curry, Sr. Mary
Ann Dillon; Hanford Eckman, Louis #
Goeringer, Leonard Gonchar, Rich-
ard Laux, William Mainwaring,
John McCarthy, John McCole, John
Metz, Dr. George Moses, Helen
0’Connor, Robert Patton, William
Smulowitz and William Umphred.
