Coleco isn’t even taking orders on Cabbage Patch Kids anymore.” Jordan Moye, manager of McCrory’s in the Shavertown Shop- ping Center, said he is’ expecting more Cabbage Patch Kids, how- ever, Christmas shoppers need not get their hopes up, because the Kids are not expected to arrive until early 1984. ! Cabbage Patch Kids have become so popular in these last few weeks of shopping before Christmas that people have been offering some pretty high prices to Cabbage Patch scalpers. However, neighter Dzanko nor Mrs. Landis is convinced that Cabbage Patch Kids are the hottest Christmas item yet. “I think the Cabbage Patch Kids appeal to more ages,” said Mrs. Landis. “I think more people want them for different reasons, but I don’t think the dolls are any bigger than Strawberry Shortcake or the Smurfs were.” Dzanko claims the Cabbage Patch Kids are not the only toy items on the market that are difficult to find as Care Bears, the GI Joe Jet and the Glow Worm are virtually impos- ‘‘The toy industry just didn’t anticipate sales. or demands this year,” he said. Despite the so-called recession that has taken over our country and our pocketbooks, it seems that when Christmas comes, people find money to spend on their kids. And so, the nation responds to a manufacturer’s dream - pushing, shoving, kicking, biting, punching - doing anything to get their hands on a Cabbage Patch Kid. And, while the Cabbage Patch Kids continue to steal hearts and incite riots, the Coleco people just sit back and watch, smiling all the way to the bank.
